Hinduism, and my ad hoc practice therof
    #7890720 - 01/16/08 10:15 PM (16 years, 16 days ago)

So I took an interest in Hinduism a while back, and have adopted an ammount of it since then. I most closely associate with Shavism, viewing Shiva as a central deity, or the central deity. I like Shiva. The drugs, the dirtiness, the defiance of social mores, the asceticism combined with householder status, I hold him as a father, a brother, and sometimes a son. Ganesh, Shiva's son, I relate too mostly as an older brother. I like to discuss things with murtis. It really helps me to talk to statuary, as being in the mindset of speaking to an audience makes me more mindful of my ideas and how to express them, especially if the audience is god. I've developed something of a fetishism revolving fire and ashes (not a sexual fetish), mantras for earthly power or understanding, performing austerities for the same earthly power or understanding. I don't follow the Vedas, I believe but cannot say this is certain, that this is common amongst Shavites, especially the ascetics. There are a catagory of ascetics called Sadhu, which is kind of like a religeous retirement. After you're done doing your earthly business, you find a guru or some other sect of Sadhus who'll take you on, renounce everything you own, and wander off looking for god. They get together every three years, and it's the biggest gathering of humans towards one purpose in the world. I mention this because it seems like an excellent retirement option. Just say fuck it to all the bullshit, and smoke weed with a bunch of dredlocked old Hindu men, and sing epics and bless children for food money. Word.

So how about y'all? Traditional Hindus? Ramshackled "Hindu-Inspired" spiritualists like myself?

Sounds nice and juicy primitive, with lots of archetypes and shit. I always liked all those fancy deities and such. Seems like you're havin lots of fun and it works for you. I don't hang out in one place anymore myself.
