Do I have to use a casing layer?

My substrate is almost 100%.
I'm going to start fruiting any day now.
My ? is. Do I have to use a casing layer? I already have a lot of branching and I was told it might be too late to case it.
Is this true? What should I do?
Any help is appreciated.

i dont want to ehm... cough start anything but if you want to check out a cool thread look at "Late Casing" by fahtster... it basically involves casing VERY lightly after PINS have formed. it works beautifully and results in a casing that isnt a WARZONE when your done harvesting.
heres the link

Case if you want. Traditionally, you case and then return to incubation parameters before fruiting. Then after a while, patch and fruit. But, mushrooms aren't cased in the wild and they will do fine if you don't want to bother. Good Luck.

By branching I do mean vertical rhizo growth.
Thanks for all the input.

Remember if you don't case you have to keep humidity at 100% all the time. Other wise no good will come of it. And yes with vertical rhizo growth you can still case.

By the way...
Fahtster is clearly an accomplished grower, but so is Hyphae, and his pinning strategy is pretty tried and true. I would suggest getting the basics of casing down before you try the alternates, and modified methods.
