Forty people saw a UFO in Texas??

As reported by NPR: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18146244 Wow, I don't really believe this. I mean it's possible but not really probable in my mind. And I just had an argument with my girl over the idea that UFOs could land on the White House lawn tomorrow and our lives could possibly be virtually the same. Just because they're aliens doesn't mean they're all the same. doesn't mean they're all totally divine or totally evil. Maybe they'd just be like us humans but all crazy lookin and able to somehow travel through space.
well, I guess our technology could change, but they'd probably want to trade for it, right?
Anyways, the article quoted a west Texas resident as sating it was "bigger than a Wal-Mart" which seems funny enough.
-------------------- 'Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. That's what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain and leave the Shroomery.' ~ Jim Morrison

It's not like this is the first mass ufo sighting. There have much much more impressive ones in the past. But still no one knows anything for sure.

an UFO*- sorry, I had to.
I think all the people who report seeing UFOs are either seeking attention or are crazy. Maybe this is close minded, but I don't think any race with technology needed to reach our planet would even be interested in us at all. Unless of course the UFOs are of human origin, which is entirely possible.

It's a sad day in Texas when residents need to compare the size of flying objects in the sky to department stores.

This beauty was seen by hundreds of people in Belgium.
It was picked up on two separate radars.
It was filmed and photographed by independent witnesses.
Belgium sent two f-16's to intercept, they locked-on to the target but every time they got remotely close it would fly off at incredible speeds. The pilots said it was making maneuvers that seemed impossible by our knowledge of aviation and that it flew into space.
Belgium asked the USA if they had any top secret aircraft in their airspace. The USA denied this.

I love the explanation by military officals: "They said the residents are letting their imaginations run wild and passed it off as an optical illusion. They said it was likely nothing more than a reflection of sunlight on two airliners."

you know why people only see UFOs in the sky?
It's because the aliens look down and see traffic jams that consist of off-road SUVs and say "no intelligent life here" and fly off.

No it certainly could be man made, I think its probably an advanced military program (although it could also be ET ). The explanation just sounds like they aren't even trying. It was seen by a pilot a cop and about forty other people you would think they would try a little harder. Would anyone be like "you know what it probably was the light reflecting off of two airliners making it look like a supersonic walmart"?

It was a weather balloon that appeared to be a Wal-Mart as the swamp gas reflected the light from Venus. THATS AN EXCUSE I'D BELIEVE!

i saw this same type of aircraft right around 1990. its lights weren't red they were 3 different colors, or possibly two different colors but the same configuration and everything. the color difference could be from the low quality camera. very cool.

you know what the absolute WORST alien movie of all time was?
That one by M night Shamalan with Mel Gibson... Signs...
these aliens were obviously casing out the earth before they attacked... and they were running around in fields at night/early morning. Maybe just b/c I'm from Oklahoma and running around in fields at night is pretty much the only thing to do when you're in high school (well, alcohol is involved too), but there's this phenomenon on earth called condensation, which produces dew- which is water. So you'd think these aliens who are smart enough to travel through all of space and time to get here, case out a planet that's what, about 75% WATER, and run around in WET FIELDS would think at some point in time, "Hey I should throw on a fucking rain poncho before I take these humans down"

i thought that the very first time i ever saw signs
newsflash: maddox isn't the only person in the world who has the ability to analyze things.
I don't ever remember reading anything about signs on his website.
I'm gonna go look now

well, I'll be damned, he did do an article on signs
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=signs
uhm, however, I didn't quote him. I see no mention of aliens putting on raincoats in his version.
although it's the same concept that ANYONE with a fucking brain could have figured out.
I still say signs is the worst ever b/c it was sssooooo hyped up.
at least the killer clowns from space movie has the excuse of being a "B" movie.

It seemed like you were trying to do the same "I'm so smart look at me be condescending toward something" schtick he does. It's cool if you didn't I remember thinking it too but the similarities between your post and his article seemed really close to what i remembered.

A few years ago something similar happened in New Mexico where virtually an entire town latched onto the most implausible of all explanations too. They saw lights in the sky that "couldn't" be from Earth because there were no airports or military bases nearby, and the lights made abrupt right-angle turns.
Turns out the lights were just car traffic in a town about 60 miles away on the other side of a mountain range. You see, the lights from the distant town were being refracted off a standing thermocline in the atmosphere, like a mirage on a hot roadway.
The effective angle of the mirror varied as the temperature gradient in the atmosphere moved with the wind flowing over the mountains. This gave the illusion of the "impossible" abrupt right-angle turns and explained the lack of sound.
Interestingly, the thermocline also gave false radar returns (radio waves refract just like light does) and lent false credibility to the ET proponents who insisted that "impossible" right-angle turns were recorded on radar. Nevermind that radar operators have long known about this effect which is a common occurrence when certain temperature gradients exist in the atmosphere.
I'm sure the people of that town felt pretty silly when they found out that the least plausible explanation usually isn't the correct one.
Now, I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but I am saying that whatever these things are, they're far more likely to have an ordinary, boring, mundane explanation, than ET.
This theme repeats over and over. The Phoenix Lights is a similar event that was definitively explained even though thousands of people insisted they were looking at alien ships.
It's also interesting that there are now hundreds of millions of high-quality cell phone cameras on the planet, yet fuzzy could-be-anythings are the best images anyone can come up with.
The explanation for this is simple. When the object is far enough away that you can't tell what it is, the mind immediately jumps on the ET explanation. Movies DO influence you whether you think they do or not.
Then if the object gets close enough that you can tell it's an ordinary Earth object like an airplane or balloon, you discard the video. Why keep boring pics of airplanes and balloons right? Why show them to your friends who will laugh at you for confusing a 747 with ET?
This has the effect of filtering all the UFO images such that the ones that get close enough to be identified as an airplane or balloon are discarded, and the ones that stay far enough away that a fuzzy could-be-anything is the best pic you can get, you keep it because nobody knows what it is.
Critical thinking skills are your friend.
-------------------- Republican Values: 1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you. 2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child. 3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer. 4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.
