Ultrasonic Humidifier makes no FAE??
    #7887965 - 01/16/08 11:51 AM (16 years, 16 days ago)

I've been planning to solve the two issues of manual FAE and Misting with a humidifer as many have done...but recently came across a Crane Ultrasonic that was free, had an easy connection spot for a tube outlet, is dead-silent, and is an elephant.

The problem: After searching on here for awhile it seems these ultrasonics can't be relied on for FAE because they provide very little airflow. However, I still would like to use this mainly because it is completely quiet, which once again is very important in my set-up.

Mine sprays a fog about 4-5ft. into the air with a fair amount of force...which I understand isn't as powerful as a Cool Mist because it doesn't really have any pressure/impeller behind it. It may not be as strong....but it still does push fresh air. Seeing as my set-up has to be as elegant and stealthy as possible...I'd still really like to use my dead-silent Ultrasonic without the aid of a fan.

Would This Work?

Having the humidifier on a shelf about 5 ft. over the terrarium, so gravity would help pull the dense air down into the terrarium. I would have a few large holes on the top of the terrarium to vent out the air so the air flow could be continuous and not back up. Has anybody tried something like this...or just tried to used an ultrasonic for FAE?

Thanks, Bof

Vents and other openings will provide FAE. Humidifiers provide humidity. For terrariums, perlite is the preferred method.

free humidifier? Maybe because the fan is broken?
you can get a new ultrasonic for 30 bucks at wally world.
This will provide more than enough fae and rh

RR -

I considered perlite....but I'm looking for a method that is as simple as possible...concealing bags of casing materials in my quarters is difficult enough as it is, which is why I wanted to stick with the idea of FAE and Rh coming from one source - the humidifier. The reason I worry a little extra about FAE is because this terrarium is in the very back of a closet in a little nook, where there is just about the same amount of air around the tank as there is in the tank.

Tahoe -

This is a "free" humidifier because the girlfriend was sick of driving around town with me to find the perfect one, so she just gave me one she had. Ultrasonics don't have fans, either...they rely on vibrations to create & push the humid air out. This is the reason why I made this post, to ask if my ultrasonic could be relied on for introducing fresh air, such as a cool mist would do.

My thoughts would be that an ultrasonic like this would provide a little FAE provided a proper set-up, since it is in a sense "pumping" the air around it through the water then out the spout. I just wanted to know if anybodies had any luck with using an ultrasonic for FAE.

Thanks...Bof
