Quest of the Monotub

Alright, I want to build a fully automated monotub, without all the polyfill crap.
Here is a picture of a traditional mm monotub:

Is it a reasonable thought to incorporate two air wands
as shown in the poor mans pod:

To replace the polyfill in the monotub?
Also would it be wise to case spawn with straight coco coir?

for one you'd be pumping unfiltered air into the bin through those. second, even if it was filtered unless you have that timed well you will dry out your cakes, which is what i assume your growing. third, your pumping air into the chamber, where is it going to exit?
i personally would stick with fanning or going the polyfil route.

no, you misunderstand me.
I'm looking at building a mono-tub, as shown by monstermitch, with the plexiglass on top.
I just want to place an air wand on each side of the monotub. I'd be using a dual line air pump and a tropi-caire humidifier with the air wands.
The reason I'm wanting to do this is so I wouldn't have to have the polyfill or the 2" holes.
I'd be spawning to hpoo from colonized rye.
Why isn't this plausible?

its plausible.
the polyfil allows for venting air in / out. if your constantly pumping air in and have the lid on tight, where is it going to go?

You've got a point. Maybe if I affixed a filter patch to the mono-tub it would work. Fresh air isn't the problem, it's co2 expulsion, so I'd say maybe a 2" filter patch towards the bottom of the tub on each side, but above the substrate level?

I don't understand why you wouldn't just build a traditional monotub. Thats just seems like more work you would have to do, not counting having to dial in everything, for about the same results. Just set it and forget it. Not bashing or anything, I'm just curious what the benefits are. Either way, keep us updated and good luck.

To be honest, my fan is louder, than my air pump, and I sleep in the same room that I grow shrooms.

what does it matter if hes pumping unfiltered air into his monotub? its not as if its suppose to be sterile. I dont know if I would go with this method though.

Tropic air humidifiers should be illegal. the water in them quickly goes bad and gave my early days of monotubbing nothing but trich trich trich and more trich with a shot of cobweb.

Yes sir! I totally agree. I HATE TROPIC AIR HUMIDIFIERS!
Piece of crap my first fruiting chamber was based on one of those damn things. Waste of time and money.

Thanks for the link, because you just solved one of my problems with that post. I have a bunch of monotubs being built right now and was going to put plexiglass on top so they would be built good and be reuseable. Now you have given me an idea because I have a bunch of those small clear tubs in my storage building. I believe it will give me a little more air circulation in a traditional monotub also. Thanks again.

it's not mine it's Hc's but it works great. 15cups sifted peat moss 15cups verm 7 cups oyster shell flour 1.2 cups hydrated horticulture lime. Used my electronic ph tester came out at exactly 7.1 then hydrate till just less than field weight put in quart jars and can them like you would vegetables. I have some casing soil that im using now 6 months later and flushing beautifully. Snap son!!! lol

The reason you dont hydrate to total field weight is it will come out of the jars in big clumps instead of little ones. Once it's on the cake then mist heavily to bring it to field weight.

That is what makes this community awesome! You just made my day. I came up with that idea from so many other members ideas. Inovation is where it's at. I'm sure you'll expound on it and come up with your own tek. Please share, and I'm sure someone else will benefit from it! The Shroomy 1
