January 16, 2008 U.S. Dominance in Science and Technology at Risk, Report Says By CORNELIA DEAN
The United States remains the world leader in scientific and technological innovation, but its dominance is threatened by economic development elsewhere, particularly in Asia, the National Science Board said on Tuesday in its biennial report on science and engineering.
The country’s position is especially delicate, the agency said, given its reliance on foreign-born workers to fill technical jobs.
The board is the oversight agency for the National Science Foundation, the nation’s leading source of funds for basic research in the physical sciences.
The report, available at www.nsf.gov/statistics/indicators, recommends increased financing for basic research and greater “intellectual interchange” between researchers in academia and industry. The board also called for better efforts to track the globalization of manufacturing and services in the high-tech sector, and their implications for the American economy.
Over all, it said, surveys of science and mathematics education are both “disappointing and encouraging.” Fourth- and eighth-grade students in all ethnic groups showed improvement in math, the report said, but progress in science is far less robust. And knowledge gaps persist between demographic groups, with European- and Asian-Americans scoring higher than students from other groups.
Many Americans remain ignorant about much of science, the board said; for example, many are unable to answer correctly when asked if the Earth moves around the Sun (it does). But they are not noticeably more ignorant than people in other developed countries except on two subjects: evolution and the Big Bang. Although these ideas are organizing principles underlying modern biology and physics, many Americans do not accept them.
“These differences probably indicate that many Americans hold religious beliefs that cause them to be skeptical of established scientific ideas,” the report said, “even when they have some basic familiarity with those ideas.”

I guess I should have plastic surgery and go Asian, learn either Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. Then move the fuck out of the US. Or I could stay here and take the jobs that are left and watch the masses suffer? Or I could move back to Russia...

If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain and leave the Shroomery.' ~ Jim Morrison

The U.S. still has plenty of scientific innovation.
Just take a look at the list of noble prize winners. Or, take a look at pubmed at look at the professional literature. There is plenty coming out of the U.S.
Did that report cite anything objective, or just survey 4th and 5th graders?

Have you been to your local university? Take a look and tell me who all the grad students are... A LOT of the grad students in my university are not Americans. A lot of the professors are not Americans. A lot of Russians, Asian, Indians, etc.
Objective? It is still said it's number one... Did you miss that one? The fact still remains is that as the old guys retire there won't enough smart Americans to take their place, just a bunch of Bible thumpers.
Another university near me is full of Asians and liberals. For the time being the Bible faggots are the conservatives and they tend to be less educated or they straight up place the Bible over everything else.

And why do you think they all come here? It's because we have superior scientific facilities, funding, and educational systems. Despite an individuals background, they are still working in the American system, producing scientific findings for the U.S.

There are still plenty of americans being churned out of the U.S. scientific system. The job market in science related fields is very competitive.
Hardcore bible thumpers aren't taking over academic and scientific institutions. They simply aren't interested in it. Besides, as long as its not evolutionary theory, or a field relating to the nature of the origin of the universe, theres little reason to think a hardcore "bible thumper" can't produce quality scientific results.

And you think that will continue? You think the USA is going to stay number? Others are catching up. Not to mention the fact that a lot of them don't stay in the US after getting their degrees.

Yes but not enough to fill all the jobs. Even companies are bitching about this because they know what the fuck is up. There are even companies that are helping primary schools cause they know that the public schools are pumping out morons.

They are Bible thumpers because they are ignorant. If our education system continues to pump out morons then there will be more of them. And yes they are not interested in it --->>> America falls.
Yes Bible thumpers might produce some findings but they will place everything below the Bible. If something contradicts the Bible... fuck it. That is a fact. Come on, there are morons in the South that think Copernicus and Galileo are bullshit. The Bible is everything to them.
