what exactly happened to me: seizure, OOB, etc?

There was a period of time when I was younger where I felt like strange things were happening to me at night.
I'm 28 now. I grew up as a kid mostly in this part of florida which was a total paradise. When I was 11 my family moved to the DC burbs and I got really stressed out.
For the next few years, occasioanly when I would lay down to go to sleep, it would take a long time for me to finally get to sleep.. like an hour. It was usually because my mind was racing with so many thoughts, worries, etc. During that time, sometimes i'd notice something weird. I was definately AWAKE, but I'd start to hear this faint buzzing noise. It almost was like I felt it so much as I heard it. Eventually it would get stronger and stronger and it felt like there was this powerful vibrating going on through my whole body and I would be sort of paralyzed. I seriously couldn't move... my whole body sort of overcome by this powerful vibrating feeling, like being stuck in some kind of loud machine that just sends some sort of energy through you. It used to scare the SHIT outta me because when I was 11 or 12 I was religious and thought I was being possessed or something. It happened maybe a few times a year and each episode lasted maybe 30-60 seconds. The last time I remember it happening was just after I turned 18 and moved to the dorms at my university. Towards the end it happened less and less and this time I mentioned was the very LAST time I ever remember it happening.
I don't think it was a seizure because I didn't convulse and it always happened at the same time, when I was trying to get to sleep, but couldn't because my mind was racing so much.
In college, I googled the symptoms and the only thing that was close I could find, were people talking about out of body experiences.... but I never felt like I was OUTSIDE my body, only trapped in it. Other people said maybe it was my "body falling asleep before my mind" but that sounds like bullshit to me.. almost on the verge of "supernatural". I'm one of the least superstitious people you'll meet so I don't really buy into OOB's or anything.
The only thing I can think of is maybe it was stress related since it started happening after a really big move where I started getting depressed. I suffered from depression from about 12-20 years old and this seemed to happen from 11-18. I started smoking pot around 17-18 years old and got into drugs more when I was 18, around when this stopped.
Anyone ever felt something similar or know what this was?
