Straw colonization help!

Hi All, first post here. Was hoping someone can help explain what is happening with the myc on my straw. Have spawned my tray of straw with colonized worm poo (a sort of superspawn tek), about 3 weeks ago, and the straw has got so far about a week ago and no further. Mycelium has penetrated all the straw in the tray in a light fuzz, but only around the ventilation holes in the plastic covering my trays are there rings of thicker mycelium (and a little strip on one section of the straw). This thicker myc isnt spreading any futher. Does this mean that the myc is needing oxygen to grow (hence growing thickest around the holes)? On reading other teks for growing Oysters and commercial shrooms they never seem to make any holes in the plastic covering the straw. So, should there be ventialtion holes or not? Straw smells very mushroomy, and myc has distributed throughout the straw, just not getting that thick white on the top. My concern is that using the superspawn method, the straw should have been colonized by now, not so? Room temp is around 84F. Hope someone can help with what i need to do to get the myc to cover the rest of the straw like it should. Thanks in advance

I'm going to take a stab at a hypothesis.
You may have the straw too wet, and the only places that are just wet enough, but not too dry, are the places near that holes that have dried out a bit from air exchange.

When you pasteurized the straw, did you let it drain while it cooled down?

Thanks for the reply. Straw was drained on a rack over the sink in a laundry bag. Bag was also squeezed pretty well to expel any extra water. Maybe i should have left it overnight to drain? Rest of the straw has mycelium throughout it, just not very dense like around the holes. It seems that the myc is needing more air perhaps? If the straw is indead too wet, will loosening the cover fix it by drying out the straw to enable it to colonize?

Room temp could be a bit high. 85F probably means that your looking at around 90F inside the bag itself. Might be a wee to high.

I would say put a hand full of vent holes( cover with mycro tape what not) in the bottom of the container (co2 is heavier) to allow air to move through your straw. you answer your own Question
"Mycelium has penetrated all the straw in the tray in a light fuzz, but only around the ventilation holes in the plastic covering my trays are there rings of thicker mycelium (and a little strip on one section of the straw). This thicker myc isnt spreading any futher. Does this mean that the myc is needing oxygen to grow (hence growing thickest around the holes)? "
good luck
