First of all i will explain, this was a random experiment for me, whether it will succeed is another matter. But give your opinions please
I had a spare 1/4 pint BRF cake, why so small?;spare smaller jar, spare substrate, spare spore.
I also had this bag of Miracle Grow Compact Compost, this is something i had never seen before, but my work was selling them at 49p (about a dollar) a bag, so i snatched up a few.

This is a compressed compost, peat free apparently. It expanded to 3ltrs when the required water was added to the bag
I simply broke the compost in half (as i would need 1.5ltrs at most) added boiling water until the required moisture content was reached and then nuked it in the microwave for 9 minutes; 3 minute intervals.
i then let it cool over night in the sealed bag it came in and ensured the moisture content was the same.
when cool i added the fully colonised crumbled BFR cake, and shook it until it seemed to be even dispersed within the compost.
and 3 days on, i see coin sized mycelium patches all over.
hopefully things may continue.

i have searched and searched to try and find out what is in the compost itself with no luck.
is is bad that the compost itself is in the bag pretty loose, or should i try and compact it (not too much obviously) to aid the speed of colonisation, i'm guessing it will take a good 2 weeks to fully colonise.
would it be wise to shake the bag once partly colonised, like you would do with grain?
im definetly going to buy the other few bags that are left. just so handy as well, no need for a huge, dirty bag of compost. Unfortunately you guys probably havn't seen it as, its probably a failed product for miracle grow. Its so cheap at the shop i work at as it has been discontinued to be stocked.

i would not compact it at all ! fluffy is good .. u compact it and itll will just slow down .. rhizomorphic mycelium has lil tentacles that will handle all that .. if it is sort of pellet like then shaking would be your best option .. but wait for it to get some strength .. btw , not to get you down but ive heard bad stuff about miricale gro .. it is really intended for plants and supports other things that would be detrimental to mushies .. best of luck ..
