Mushrooms of JAPAN~ (cross post)
    #787927 - 07/31/02 10:10 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Well, the summer months on the islands of Japan are the most rainy, humid, and unfortunatly for some mushrooms.... the hottest time of the year. but nontheless, there is mycellium out there! and o so pretty fruits.. very forign to those of the pacific coast.

Before my journey to Japan, I purchased a Konica KD-300Z (3.3 mp)
Here is my upfront apology for the "blurr" of some of the photos, this camera has great capabilities, but the operator is still in training... me thinks I need a tripod?

without further hesitation, here they are!
PS. if you can name these, you get bonus points!
Ii did not have my book with me, many of these are UN-ID at this point)

This appears to be an cluster of some type of Oysters, no?

name them if you can,
mushrooms of Japan.

-Seril
hope no one minds the cross post, wanted to get some good IDs on these.
cheers~

OK, I'll take a shot at IDing. Since they're from across the pond, I'm not going to try going beyond genus. Besides, without spore prints most of these can't be better than wild guesses.

#1 looks like Clitocybe. #2 and #3 look to me like the same species, an Amanita. #4 looks like Collybia. #5 suggests another Amanita. #6 might be Tricholomopsis. #7 and #8 look like Pluteus.

I agree with you except for the #1. It looks more like a Lactarius to me.

You have a good point. Lactarius is a probably a better guess for #1. In my area we have more Clitocybes that look somewhat like the photo, but elsewhere there are more Lactarius. We don't have many pure white Lactarius. It would, of course, be easy to tell in the field which it is.

It was actually legal to sell or possess them until July 1 this year. It is now a felony, and you don't want to spend time in a Japanese prison.

Definetely a Lactarius. Besides coloration, it looks almost exactly like the Indigo Milky's I find.
