Not to post a paranoia thread, but the thought of a recession/depression in the US got me thinking, that it may be a good idea to start stockpiling some stuff and be prepared for the worst.
So, if you want, feel free to post what you would have in your survival kit in case of a disaster. I personally am worried about medications, specifically for my girlfriend. She is epileptic, and I am not sure how to deal with a disaster of some sort that would inhibit us from getting her meds.
Anyways, I was hoping to just make this a compilation thread of people's smart ideas about survival, so lets get it going!

A trauma capable first aid kit to include:
cravats
israeli dressings
scalpel blades for performing a "cric"
nasal airway tube
quick clot powder
chitosan hemclot bandages
a few bags of unexpired lactated ringers or basic saline with iv line and extra needles 16-18 gauge
torniquets
bandaids
iso alocohol, iodine
forceps
I carry everything except the iv in my truck in case of an emergency.
Thats first aid, i'll come back with water and supplies later.

same here. i am thinking a handgun and a rifle of some sort. maybe a shotgun with slugs?
or some rifle with a scope.

a decent high power rifle that can be used for hunting and self defense. if your not comfortable with the idea of using a rifle for self defense then you can also keep a pistol for such occasions.

Gun w/ scope - for protection and long range viewing
bow and arrows - hunting
ax - big job a knife couldn't handle
knife* - protection and just about everything else
flint* - fire
whistle* - signaling
first aid kit - first aid
tent/sleeping bag - shelter/warmth
rope - many uses
canteen - water
food - as much as I could
* my knife has all of these
if anything big went down I'd try and get away from other people till things settled down.

def. some of my guns/ammo. good woodsman knife. first aid kit. edible/poisonous plant identification book. survival book. a few lbs of beans/rice/nuts in case you cant find food right away. a collapsable mess kit. rope. extra set of clothes. another extra pair of underwear and socks. cant even think of everything right now. i have two survival packs packed and ready to go at any time. never know when you may need it, and i love to go camping/practice my survival skills anyway.

im not prepared because of the economy, im prepared simply because you never know when you may need to know how to live off of the land. natural disasters, world war, famine, epidemics. you never know. i take pride in the fact that i could live indefinately in the wilderness if i HAD to. and i just plain love guns  theyre fun.

ok in the event of a US recession/depression store your money in foreign funds.. even if the value of the US dollar significantly decreases, you can still have stored wealth in the form of foreign currency.
makes sense in my head.
what do you mean thought of a recession? as far as i'm concerned we've been in a recession.
