i have a big bin with perlite for humidification but i work from 3 pm and dont get home until after midnight. my last grow failed because i diddnt have enough FAE...is it ok if i remove the lid partially while im at work? i have a digital hyrgometer that read 90% humidity after 1 day of having the lid off completely. what do you suggest i do?

Yes thats fine, i had a batch in my garage up on the rafters last summer. i had a hole 3 sq.inches in 24 sq.inch container using perlite. i left it alone for a week i didnt do ANY THING, NOTHING just left them. when i looked after 7 days i was impressed...

I dumped out 4 jars of wbs into a 5 gallon bucket because they stalled. I was going to add some more stuff to the bucket for carrying to my compost pile. I totally forgot about it for 2 weeks because it got shoved to the back of a garage pile (you know how garages can get). When I retrieved it to carry to the compost, there were some monster shrooms and the entire inside of the bucket was brown from spores. I was amazed considering in the summer it would get up to 120f in my garage at times. And this was straight wbs, nothing else, in a bucket with no lid.
Because of this, I adjusted the way I do my mono-tubs.

Remember these little guys grow in the wild. constant FAE is what they thrive on, as long as the RH is as close to 100% as you can get

Fraggin brings up a good point.Quote:

You say that you have a large bin with perlite, but you don't mention any other aspects to the bin that would suggest that it was in the "style" of MONOTUB. Making it a proper monotub would solve the FAE problem. Not to knock badman, but I've had horrible experiences with contamination in the past and leaving the lid partially off would only increase the possibility for contamination. Also, Co2 is heavier than air, so leaving the lid partially off wouldn't solve the problem of Co2 settling at the surface level. (that is why we fan). This is one of those times where "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" It breaks my heart when 3 weeks worth of time and materials go to waste over something that we "for the most part" have some control over. You'll end up kicking yourself in the ass.
