Substitutes for Vermiculite in PF tek and substrates?

I'm having a hell of a time finding vermiculite locally, and ordering it online seems like I'll end up paying more for S&H than for the stuff itself.

What I do have is an assload of Perlite, will it perform the same function? Or anything else more commonly available?
