Incubation

I just finished reading a ton of post on "incubation". None offered the answer for my question in black and white. Do I need to keep my jars in the dark or not. The post leaned toward darkness, but it looked like some light is OK. Any opinions?

light is fine... some people think that only light triggers pinning in jars... not true.

light is a pinning trigger later on. I've always left mine in the dark.

Once they are fully colonized light is definitely a pinning trigger

yes once fully colonized. but by then.... you should be using it if you see knots/pins.
pinning:
1. 100% colonization 2. light 3. drop in co2 4. fae

Get rid of the incubator, and put the jars on a shelf where they can receive normal room light during colonization. This will speed up pinset once you case them.

well this thread pertains to incubating so one would assume with someone new that they would want to use an incubator.

It was indeed an incubator I was talking about. I lost my last batch to contams. I like the idea of the jars sitting in a dark, clorox washed frig at 70 F. in a humid atmosphere due to the aquarium heater in a dish of water and either peroxide or clorox mix.

You do not need a high RH during colonization. an aquarium heater inside of a GLASS jar works best. Use Silicone to seal the top and use a little bleach in the water. But like dumbfounded said its best to leave them to incubate at room temp 70-80
