Despite the publicity generated by the 2012 date, Susan Milbraath, curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, stated that "We [the archaeological community] have no record or knowledge that [the Maya] would think the world would come to an end" in 2012.[12]
"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Fla. To render Dec. 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."[13]

2012 is supposed to be a great transformation.
There WILL be a transformation. Maybe not exactly on Dec 21, 2012. But definately sometime soon, before the half century mark.
The inevitabilty of an absolute transformation is obvious. The whole structure that we live in s ever so fragile.
Due to the connections of the absurdity of current world events, where we're headed, and the date of the end of the Mayan calendar, we are able to understand what the whole fuss is about.

2012 has more to do with the internet than the Mayans. The Mayans do not and have not ever had such a prophecy.

A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

From what I have heard... McKenna himself thought it was all silly.
He just found a mathematic equation that almost matched the Mayan calendar and thought it was kinda' neat... and since he was on his deathbed... he made some wild predictions. I never heard him claim his predictions were anything more than a silly theory.
Now, people who never heard him speak are running wild with 2012 fever.

It was always a theory... it was disproved (several times)... he adjusted the theory (and it was disproved again... and he acknowledged that it had been). On his deathbed he continued to talk about the timewave theory... but by then he viewed it as interesting and silly. He just wanted to go out on something that would live for years after he did... and he said as much.
Cool link. I hadn't seen that one.

I'd be very interested to have concrete evidence that he said this and even talked about it on his deathbed. And then even said that he "just wanted to go out on something that would live for years after he did".
Have you seen the video of him with the giant tumor on his head, shot months before he died? Pretty amazing.

I haven't seen that video... but it sounds like it is both gross and kinda' cool.
As for his timewave theory... I have the mp3 somewhere... but you know he can talk for hours... I may not be able to find it... but I do have a recording of him POST-internet discussing the timewave-zero theory. He'd changed his position a LOT by then... but he was impressed that his 1996 mark in his timewave coincided with the public release of the world wide web.
I have so many hours of his speeches saved... and I haven't listened to them in years. Sorry I can't be more specific. If I can find it, I will post it.
I appreciate McKenna's ability to talk about and speculate about the unknown... without ever putting his foot too far into his mouth. Yeah he was wacky... but at least he knew he was.

I understand man. I've got a bunch of his stuff, like more than anyone else I know.
If you don't know already, this website: www.matrixmasters.com has a lot of one-of-a-kind McKenna lectures. Most of them are trialouges with Rupert Sheldrake and Ralph Abraham.

Mostly what is "pointing" to 2012 is fluffernauts that know very little about it.

Nothing as far as TV goes. It's entertaining enough but I don't know how historical it is.
