WTF is the Mayan Prophecy?

Hundreds of thousands of posts all across the internet, several books, dedicated websites, but not a single clear prophecy other than "something novel will happen".
Even the believers have no consensus.

Well, basically without all the added dogma, the Mayans calculated that 2012 was the starting of a new age according to the position of the stars and the galaxies. Everything else is speculation as to what this "new age" means for humanity.
I don't believe in prophecies, because I think the future is always malleable, at least from our level of awareness. I believe in possibilities.

I pretty much ignore everything and everyone that is over a thousand years old. Sure, guys like Plato and others were great philosophers, but so many modern philosophers have taken their ideas and either augmented them or torn them to pieces.

Emphasis on "new age."

The Mayans were not philosophers. They were astronomers.

"something novel will happen".
I never read it. Is it like a Harry Potter book?

I pretty much ignore everything
This is a good philosophy and I am trying to adopt it myself.

Despite the publicity generated by the 2012 date, Susan Milbraath, curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, stated that "We [the archaeological community] have no record or knowledge that [the Maya] would think the world would come to an end" in 2012.[12]
"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Fla. To render Dec. 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."[13]

A prophecy that does not fufill your standard of expectation of substansiveness is still a prophecy.

Sorry, but saying "something will happen" on a day when trillions of things will be happening does not constitute a prophecy.

Predicting that something will happen tomorrow, followed with the inevitably of something happening tomorrow, is a prophecy, no matter how simple or obvious.

I think the term "prophecy" is generally a bit more complex that. You're just being a smart alec.

I'm a believer in the transcendental object at the end of time pulling us all closer and eventually making itself known on 2012.
