Benzo Withdrawals

I have a friend that's going through intense withdrawals from xanax, right now. What can I do to help him? I got him to eat some food, but just a little. I also got him to eat a phenobarbitol 30mg to help with the tremors. Besides that, I just hang here and smoke herb to help with the stomach cramps.
What else can I do? I feel so bad for him, but I am at a loss as to how else I can help. Thanks for any help.

how much was he taking?
if he still has some xanax, I personally would reccomend that he slowly wean off of them.

He quit cold turkey. He was taking 6-8 1mg bars a day for I don't know how long. He has no more, but his dealer keeps trying to call. I want to tell his dealer to fuck off, but that his decision, for real. I can't fight his battles for him. He has to want this, you know?

hmm...
if I were in your shoes, I would give him a little bit of xanax. it can be dangerous to go cold turkey off that stuff.

He seems to be doing alright, minus the tremors and general bad feeling. I'll hang around and keep an eye on him. I'm not giving him xanax.

After reading related topics, I have decided to keep a close eye on him. If he gets worse, I will go and get a couple of bars and give him a quarter every 2 days. I just want my old friend back. I don't have shit to do anyway.

Well, today he is doing way better. He's moving around and I got him some food that he's been nibbling on slowly. He's talking alot more, as well. Not so bad after all. As long as he stays away from xanax, I think he'll be fine.

i would honestly recommend that he go to a doctor or the emergency room. alprazolam is nothing to toy with. people can die from going cold turkey off of it i do believe.
if he was only using that amount for a week or two he should be ok. but my guess is that if he was using that amount daily for a couple months or more it would be in his best interest to see a doctor immediately and be put on a tapering program. alprazolam is no joke in my opinion.

He needs to tamper down, you don't just quit cold turkey on xanax. Why don't you buy some pills and decide when to give them to him.

.25 mg every 2 days isn't enough. If you can get long acting benzo's, those are usually a little better for withdrawal.

He's fine now, minus a little short circuit like jolt.
He's really good to go, now. Thanks for all you guys' help! I guess he was better off than I though.

well if he was this bad two days ago I doubt he is fine, but maybe less shaking and such?
benzo withdrawal lasts a long time generally
some alcohol may help, but I've never seen it recomended via a reputable source, as teh doctors usually just substitute long-acting benzos and taper (probably polysubstance abuse issues there too)

No, he only takes xanax on a regular basis. No other drug interaction. He likes to trip on occassion and smoke herb, but nothing else. He will maybe drink one beer a week. He thinks that he'll be okay eating k-pins and valiums instead of xanax. I told him that I thought it wasn't a good idea and that he should stay away from any drugs in this family.

I used to get those "brain shocks" when I quit taking SSRIs. I would always say to myself, 'I really am just a fucking robot.'
