I used lids to Windshield wiper cleaner containers. They fit those jugs perfectly and have a "paper" sleeve thingy in the lid that makes a barrier between the biz in the jug and the plastic lid. I used these without a problem. You can probably find corks in the wine section at a liquor store though. Or maybe buy some balsa wood and carve one. I dunno. I was just going for something that would make a tight seal and wasn't aluminum.

If you use an apple cider jug, you can use the cap that comes with it.
A natural cork breaks down over the course of 5 extractions, but it should do. A rubber stopper should work okay AFAIK. So long as it doesn't eat the stopper. Try the screw and fastner drawers at Lowes.

If I had to guess, I would say that you either used too much citric acid or your cactus was too weak.

what do you think of the lid that came with it?

also the goop is from the 3rd so that could be why it is weak, the first ones dried solid, i even just dried plain citric water and it dried solid... so how would too much citric cause it to dry goopy, it has to be from something in the xylene

I don't know what you did. I know what you didn't do.
When you evaporate the water left over from your freeze precipitations, it will slowly, slowly dry to a dark goo. My best guess is that you have extraneous alkaloids and junk (maybe plant fat from fast layer separation) that isn't mescaline mixed in with too much citric acid.
Is that lid plastic or metal? Is it going to come off when you shake it?
The closer you hold to the directions, the better your chances are for success.

I suppose you could test it and see if the plastic degrades.

I left the lid on my wine jug full of lye/water/bit of naptha/? and over the course of a few months it started leaking. I tried to take the lid off the other day and the only part that came off was the very top.

If the plastic breaks down, don't use it. That is bad.

What is that? A whiskey bottle? Half gallon? I feel your pain about finding half gallon glass jugs. 1 gallon is no problem. Half gallon is a bitch. I haven't tried liquor stores, I don't drink anything but beer and wine.

Do you guys have stores for brewing beer and wine and related things near you? We have these stores that sell supplies for brewing and hydroponics, they have great 5L bottles and they sell plenty of rubber stoppers or those clip on caps with the wire, theyre great. You could even get a rubber stopper with two holes in it to make the siphoning thing to get the xylene out and in .

It's hard for me to believe that these things are no longer in circulation.
Try a farmer's market or something.

It's true man. NO, I repeat NO NONE has half gallon glass jugs of anything. Not grocery stores anyway. they are all plastic. I can get 1 gallon jugs of wine all day. I can even get 1 liter wine jugs. Half gallon is just difficult to find. But don't worry, I WILL find it. If not, I'll just do the full 100 grams in a 1 gallon again. I have 500 grams of torch coming real soon. FROM YOUR SOURCE!!!;) I will try a farmers market. Maybe I will have some luck.
Side note: Is that etching on your jugs? Or just smudginess?
