Ever thought about experimenting with other recrystallization solvents? For mescaline HCl, good results have been reported with acetone/water, acetone/IPA, MEK/water, acetone/MEK/water, etc...
Over on the nook, Tregar wrote up a summary of the dual- and triple-solvent recrystallization attempts that he'd found.

It might be interesting to see if I could get it even more pure. Though, I know from the difference in sensation (and the basic theory of crystallization) that I have a relatively pure product already. But, yea. I'm always curious to experiment.
EDIT: I've found that recrystallization with distilled water as the solvent works very well.

Quick question...where can Citric Acid be found?

Most grocery stores that have a bulk section will have it there. If that fails, maybe try the cooking aisle, or wherever you'd look for canning supplies.

in your experience, what is the best way to separate the water from the mesc. citrate crystals when fridge percipitating?

Here are a couple of questions:
During the evaporation step, should/could I combine all 5 extractions in the Pyrex? I am assuming this is what is being said.
04281969- Did you just go with the powdered skin to get such a great yield?

Jfoster, filtration, ideally with vacuum. If you can't do vacuum press the paper between some tissue to get most of the remaining water out. I'm not sure how it's solubility changes with temperature though, you might need to filter it in the fridge if the crystals redissolve when it warms up. Thats the advantage of vacuum filtration, it's so quick it wont get a chance to warm up.
Ethnoguy, yeah you can combine all the aqueous extractions.

is there any way to guess how much fresh cactus it would take to make 100g of powder? Would, say, one 18in cutting get the job done?
EDIT: I guess if you were just using the skins, one cutting probably wouldnt do it anybody thy this with fresh cactus yet?

I would use the pipette I used to separate the water from the xylene.

Dried Peruvian skins that I powdered myself.

Alright cool. Well I used a combo of 12 in macrogons, 24 in bridgesii, and 12 inch of pedro. I have some powdered skin left over, but not much. It is amazing how so much cactus ends up to be so little. It looks like I am going to have a good yield though. Thanks for this tek. I would have never even attempted it without this tek. You rock.

This tek does not work!!!
I recently tried the mescaline citrate tek and yielded 520 mg of mescaline citrate. I swallowed it and the effects were hardly psychoactive. Nothing close to what Huxley experienced. Just very minor visuals.
Sorry people but I would look elsewhere b/c whatever this person is reporting to be a tek... is not!

Don't listen to ytrewq, I don't think he knows what he's talking about. The tek as outlined works perfectly fine, it's very very similar to the process I did a few years ago.
Here's what happened: his extraction probably didn't go very efficiently, or maybe the cactus was just weak. Anyway, he ended up using significantly more than an equimolar amount of citric acid when salting the mescaline. Since citric acid isn't volatile, the mass of the extra acid remains in the product along with the mescaline salt.
From the fact that 520 mg did nothing, i'd guess that at least 50+% of the product was citric acid.
His options are to re-base it, extract back into a nonpolar solvent, and salt it again with significantly less citric acid, or post on here whining that a perfectly good method "doesn't work".

Qwerty, the directions are as simple as I can make them, and yet success eludes you. There's nothing more that I can do for you, but the tek is good.

Um whatever.
I did the tek EXACTLY EXACTLY as it was written. No extra citric acid, no weak cactus, just your bad tek.
I discourage any1 trying it highly!!!!!
No trip. No feeling. Bad tek.
BAd, bad, bad, bad, bad. Don't bother. Its pathetic
