dishes while your at it... then you can start on my house

You know that everything in those is highly toxic right? So if you want to get mercury poisoning when you break one fine. Did you know if you cut yourself on the glass you won't form blood clots and can bleed out? I bet you didn't.

So I broke a fluorescent light what should i do?

Clean it up, maybe wash your hands afterwards if you're paranoid :smirk:

I know they have mercury

They don't contain much...about 10-20mg. It shouldn't be a problem.

and phosphor

Not phosphorous...they contain a "phosphor" which is the name given to a substance which converts one color light into another (kinda). The phosphor used in florescent tubes is a mix of things that probably aren't too good to eat...but won't start on fire if you touch them (like phosphorous would).

Really, it's not that bad! Clean the area, wash it if you feel paranoid, and wash your hand after. Done.

It isn't a bottle of hydrogen cyanide or something :smirk:

I had friends who would break those things to watch them shatter. They haven't died of anything, just don't cut yourself on the glass and clean it up well and you'll be fine.

I still use incadescent bulbs for this very reason.
They are much safer than flourescents and they work well with dimmer switches.

A: Because it's on fire, dumbass!
