TiT, WHY

A couple of days ago, I asked what people thought of putting my inoculated jars in a small tub and then putting that in a Coleman cooler with water and a aquarium heater in the bottom. I got the OK and now I wonder why bother with the tub for jars. Why not set 6 jars in the cooler with a little water and the heater set on 80 and the lid closed? I don't understand the purpose of TiT. Also, the grain mix I bought is Milo, Millet and cracked corn. Does this sound OK?

why use an incubator at all? mycelium creates heat while it is colonizing. your more likely to contaminate yours having them in a sealed tub IMHO. it has been my experience that jars sitting on a shelf at room temp colonize faster and with less contams.

if ur temp in ur grow area is constant. the aquarium heater is good about keeping a constant temperature. in the summer i never needed a incubator just used a rubbermaid tub

Would it be a good idea to put them into a tub with a lid and then into the cooler? I know a lot of people store them in a closet. My last batch went bad in the closet. Still thinking, how about a good clean cooler and clorox in the water?

If you are going to make a tit, make it right. Preschooler has the idea. Search up a guide with pictures for a better idea on how to go about making a tit, heatbomb, or other incubation methods. Or just scrap the entire incubator idea, like many people will suggest. Chances are your last batch went bad for reasons other than they were in the closet.

Unless its freezing cold in the room where you keep your jars I say save yourself the hassle and "Incubate" at room temp
