is it possible to take a cap that has already been dried out and scrape the spores from it and make a syringe with them? or will they be contaminated? ( if i bought some shrooms and took a cap and did this)

you can try, but most of them will most likely be mixed with contams, and you cannot clone because the myc is dead... you can try though

i see. well i tried it once but i also overkilled it, haha i made 2 8oz jars brf and inoculated with 20 cc's of spores from a dried cap that i scraped and they colonized 3/4 the way with THICK myc then got green mold :[ so i beilve it is possible just like a 95% chance of contamination :[

I think RogerRabbit can answer that even better for you as if I remember correctly he did some studies on growing from dried specimens.

it might work if you grew it on agar and then isolated a healthy chunk of mycelium, if it ends up growing... keep this thread bumped up and hopefully RR will see it and give us some lightbulbs...
it would be great to get a bad of dope mushies and clone them for your own use..

i have read, i think from RR , but dont hold me to that . that if you want to use dry mushrooms to get fresh mushrooms you need to take a clipping from the gill and put that on agar. and do he necessary isolations.

I think you are right. He (RR) did grow from dried specimens. Didn't it have something to do with whether or not the specimens were dessicated or not? I don't know for sure and I don't want to spread false info, so I will wait for RR to step up on the subject.

With dry shrooms and using agar you could either
a) isolate some spores from the cap and grow from them.
b) rehydrate some of the mushroom tissue and grow a clone from that.
Both have been done.
But without agar you are better off buying a print or syringe from a sponsor.

if you dont know anything about agar then you should start learning. it looks like thats the only way you can do it.

yea i kinda figuredu had to use agar. like i know it's possible to do by just scraping and making a syringe but contaminats are very high.. like i said i tried it with 2 jars 8 oz, but i inoculated with 20cc's in each jar. so it deff was over saturated and it got contaminated with green mold but i may have been contaminated because it was to wet. so i think im going to try it again without agar and just use 1-2cc's per jar. and possible also make a karo thing of w.e or that snapple bottle tek

As much trouble as I go through to make sterile prints, I would guess that you would have a high level of contamination... Agar would be the way to go.

Can you buy agar at a store? or do you have to order it off a website?
And once I get it what would be the steps to growing them?
I'm really interested in growing my own but I can only get the spores from dry caps.
