your sub is too wet or too compacted... its having trouble moving through the substrate... how did you prepare your jars?

take some pictures if at all possible i remember when i was doing BRF jars i would get a very similar problem and all turned out well. it was just excess moisture that was just kinda stuck like DJYosha said.
How long have they been colonizing?

Back in my caking days a yellow discharge was excess metabolites from the mycelium. It didn't do any damage, but growth was slow.
It may very well be a moisture content issue.

Metabolites. Take pictures and post them so we can see for sure. Also, are you incubating these jars?

I'm also guessing its metabolites but without a pic this cant really be answered

its either too high of a moisture content in the substrate, or its too tightly compacted in the jar.. either way.. not death.. just slow.. just use less water next time... i never even measure the water with the way I do it.. and its always right where it needs to be...

Uh, you already got the answer? It is probably metabolites, most likely caused by too much moisture, the mycelium fighting contaminates, or both. Unless you post a (good) picture, there really isn't much to say. Just wait longer, and colonize at room temperature.

I also have found that quite a few of my jars have the mycelium have rhizomorphic growth and releasing some metabolites-not that much.
Typically, what are the chances that the mycelium can fight off the contaminants? and/or should I throw these cakes out or wait and see?
If they colonize fully, can I just fruit? even w/ metabolite release?
good advice only please, newbs stay out

Metabolite ridden cakes are fine to fruit, especially after a dunk.
Metabolites aren't contamination.
If it's contaminated, toss it. I don't think any single cake is worth the risk. post pictures to the contam forum if you're concerned about it.

I guess my question is, are all contaminations visible to the human eye?
thought I should take the sign of metabolite production as a warning sign that the cakes need to be tossed.s
