Has anyone had better luck with mazatapecas??
    #786823 - 07/30/02 06:49 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

I innoculated 4 PF jars earlier with mazatapecas spores from the little guy, none of them showed growth after about 2 weeks. They were nice enough to send a replacement and i tried it again with 5 jars this time. 2 weeks go by and the only growth is cobweb. Is this a defect with the syringe or is this just not a easy strain?

Maza are a great strain - never had any problems personally with the mazas - usually a hassle-less cubensis ime

Nuff Said. First attempt and no problems. 2 good flushes and contams took over and I started experimenting like a dumbass. And they work wonders on your brain.

I had no problem with my maz's and they're my first grow ever. If you have cobweb...you're contaminating your substrate somehow.

Mazatapec mycelium were VERY aggressive and rhizomorphic for me. Sounds like you need to re-vamp your sterility methods during the innoculation.

They aren't the largest fruit bodies but the trip is amazing!

Good luck.

Peace,

Bop

I inoculated 9 jars with Maz from TLG on 7/21 and today 7/31 they are all about half colonized with nice white mycelium. They are slightly behind the Creeper and Eq that I inocced on the same day.

mazatapecs are a very slow colonizer. They add about 10-14 days to your project.

Personally I've always found them to be one of the fastest growing...my last batch germinated in about 3-4 days followed by aggressive colonisation.
Maybe some other factor is giving you very slow growth. Temperature too low? weak batch of spores? substrate too dry/wet/packed? could be various things.

hey,
I agree with Sorted. My batch colonized in 1 1/2 weeks in 6 1/2 pint jars. As far as fruits I'm not getting a lot because they are pretty slow to fruit, maybe it is the way i am growing though.

Slow?....hah...... NOT !!!!!! Mazzie`s kick ass in dark rye flour...... 10 days to 100% colonized half pints...... crumble and case and fruits in 14 days..... very agressive mycelia... prolific fruiters... must have been a bad syringe or a contam problem on your end. Personally I use the oven tek.....works great... have`nt had a bad jar in 2 years since I switched. Good luck.... Sounds like Boxtop wants to make it right with ya.

It's a very easy strain to grow and is my fav.
Got some spores from hawk awhile ago(so-so print)...
They colonize pretty fast and have average fruiting times but are very easy and should give noone any troubles whatsoever.

Boxtop, i got a free creeper syringe that did fine so im pretty sure it didnt get fried in the mailbox. I guess i just gotta keep trying on this strain, you guys seem to have good results.

try your spores on agar then you?ll know one way or another.
As for mazas - ive read they?re slow, but its not true - pretty average for me - very rhizomorphic and big flushes - second biggest yields ive ever had - not big mush, but very nice for the mind - imagine lost of these on millet:

It's funny...none of my Mazatapecs look like those pictured there. LOL

It's amazing how conditions and casing/substrate can effect the outward appearance of the same strain.

LOL

i bet you the genetics from vendor to vendor are different, and that's why you get different results (just my hunch, could be completely wrong)
