intriguing new theory

I just got back a friends house where i had an interesting conversation with an old friend. The topic of 2012 got brought up. let me just say that i don't yet know what to think yet about that topic but i am aware of the possibilities. Then that topic led to him bringing up the string theory. now i have never heard of this before so i asked him to explain and i wasn't prepared for it either.
He said that scientist have came up with this theory that there are 10 dimensions of existence, in some of which we do not even exist. Now humans reside in and can only see in 3 dimensions. Most of the other dimensions time doesn't exist either. He also says that the scientists are saying that existence is for ever whether in this dimension or not.
Now this part is a little far fetched but he says that scientist have began to create small galaxies in laboratories through bubbles now i don't know quite what that means but its crazy.
Please someone shed some light on this or at least share your opinion.

I call BS. Time is the fourth dimension. Ever read about how gravity itself effects time? The string theory( THEORY) suggest a possibility of up to 26 dimensions.

Wiki is your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_theory
Honestly, I am drunk and tired of Physics/Math because I have been in a Physics and Math class the past 3 quarters of college.

string theory sucks. it's just another theory thought up by assholes in universities who get to sell their books and get peer recognition through their published papers. look into fractal theory. the dimensions are infinite. everything you see in the natural world from a slug to tree leaves to our galaxy itself is fractally constructed. this would then suggest that our solar system is probably an atom of flourine and the earth is an electron exchanging positive and negative energy with the nucleus or sun.(life and death) this would also suggest that there are infinite worlds moving real fast within our own bodies. this would make us each a god. even a dog would be a god to some realities. a piece of grass would also be a god to the atoms as solar systems contained within. i can't find a way to disprove this theory other than religion, can you?

Why do you think the string theory is brought up by up assholes in universities just to sell books and get peer recognition?

it's crazy or your friend is crazy?
I think he might be twisting a metaphor that's used to describe the edge's of the universe, where' galaxies' are being created and destroyed like bubble's in the suds of soap.

scientists are trying to create mini black holes, not galaxies.
so far, I don't think they've done it yet
