Is Easy Felt OK to Use as a Jar Filter
    #7866526 - 01/11/08 07:41 PM (16 years, 21 days ago)

My local hardware store didn't have any Tyvek products in the paint department but Hobby Lobby had this material called Easy Felt by by CPE. It is Stiffened Felt for crafts. It has the fuzzy feel or felt with the rigidity of poster board. I put it to my mouth and I could breath through it. If I cut it into circles and secured it under a canning jar ring would it work as a FAE filter? Or should I cut a large hole in the metal lid and secure it between the lid and the ring?

I have never heard of it,my guess is it will get wet and ruin everything,I would only use it on a few test jars at most before risking ruining a ton of spawn

Dude, go to the post office and swipe some Tyvek envelopes. It really is one of the easiest items to acquire for an aspiring mycologist.

Yes I know, old post!

Postal tyvek is shitty.

I just bought stiffened felt not knowing what the hell easy felt is. So thanks for making me feel better about my guess purchase

It is a great idea. What people don't know is that the disks you can buy from vendors, is most likely felt. And is reusable many many times and is much more durable and reliable. Just look up the easy felt tek. Many TC agree. Now lets bane postal tyvek....

EDIT:
I looked at the Easy Felt tek again, found that I bought a recommended brand (eco-fi). Man I love my mycology luck.
