My first Hunt - Few Questions

Howdy all, I'm new around here.
After lurking around the forums for a while gaining some knowledge I decided to go out and do a little hunting today. I know it's a little off-season for much of anything but cyanescens(sp), but I wanted to anyway.
I apologize in advance for having no shots of the stem and underside of the caps - Most of what I found were very young and I didn't want to disturb them.
I'm from the bay area in California and I couldn't really think of many good places to check for wood chips, so I just set out to someplace that I thought to be wood-ish and may have some form of good substrate.
I started at my local park and found nothing but some termites, was a little discouraged and so I went about 5 miles further away.
I walked for a long while and was very discouraged as I wasn't finding any mushrooms at all, let alone edible/hallucinogenic ones. However finally..
The first thing I found were these two guys:

and

-They were hiding near the base of a tree that I can't identify the species of. The tree and surrounding logs were all covered with lichen and moss. -Yellowish gills, not attached to the stem.
Next I scanned the ground for a good 10 minutes and found these couple of guys:

and

-They were simply growing amongst the leaves and decaying plant matter that was on the ground, they weren't growing on wood as far as I can tell, though one is very very close to some wood debris. -Stem Light/Medium brown -Couldn't get a look at the gills.
I decided not to pick any of these 4 mushrooms as they were quite young -- so I'm sorry I don't have spore prints of any of these.
Then I went hiking some more and stumbled across THIS thing:

I have NO IDEA what the hell this thing was. It was by far the coolest thing I saw today. It was simply growing on an old tree trunk that was on the ground. The tree like everything else had moss and lichen covering it. It is indeed attatched to the tree, I prodded it slightly. -Doubt this is a mushroom, probably some other kind of fungus.
Then I went back to the starting location and stumbled across about 10-15 of these:

They were all rotted to different extents, covered in white fuzz. I didn't want to pick any of these either because the mold kinda turned me off from touching them..heh. -Can't really get a look at much because badly decayed.
After that I went back to my car and drove home somewhat discouraged, though I'm happy that I was able to find those few things.
If anyone can recognize these things by sight, especially the yellow thing, I'd love to know what they all were.
Additionally, I know this isn't allowed, however if someone could just give me a general idea of goodish places to go looking for wood chip covered areas...that'd be very nice. I had a look for about a half an hour near the houses by my location but just couldn't find many landscaped areas with wood chips. There were some construction sites nearby that I couldn't poke through as there were workers.
I'm excited to go looking again and hopefully find my first active(s).
Anyways thats all, thanks for looking.
