Jesus and 2012
    #7864181 - 01/11/08 09:57 AM (16 years, 21 days ago)

I was listening to an old feed of the art bell show in which terence mckenna appeared. Someone called in and started ranting about how when terence died he would know jesus christ was god. That made me think, in my eyes jesus was just and enlightened being, and 2012 is rumored to be a great spiritual shift. Is it possible that return of christ is just an ascension to other dimensions of thought on a grand scale? discuss.

I saw that Art Bell. The guy also called Terence McKenna a minion of Satan. Lame!

The other day at lunch with a group of people from the Buddhist center I sometimes go to, there was much discussion of synchronicity, a new age of peace, and things of that nature. Things like this sometimes make me think that maybe there's some truth to the theories about shifts in consciousness. However, there are no guarantees and it seems best to focus on oneself primarily and on the immediate sphere of individuals with whom one comes in contact. By bringing more clarity in one's inner world and one's closest relationships, methinks much good can be achieved.

My body I will give to pleasures,

to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Of course. I believe that since i started using psychs i've changed my vibration or something, and synchronicities have exponentially increased in these years leading up to 2012. I beginning to find more and more that link between the end of the world scenarios of many religions to one event. In that art bell show mckenna claims that it's the invention of the time machine which opens many planes of time that are now restricted, and this is when time will cease to exist.

Study history and you won't easily be fooled.

When like minded people hang out and avoid those who have other ways of life or beliefs it's easy for them to think most of the world thinks like they do. Statistics rarely show this to be true.

True. And putting too much faith in anything I heard there would be like becoming convinced of Christ's inevitable return after spending time at the Vatican. The one thing that made me pay attention was that the people I was with, though they were all spiritual aspirants to one degree or another, were from vastly different walks of life - different ideas about spirituality and science, different nationalities, age groups, occupations, classes, and so forth. Still, it could have just been the vibrations of the day.

Vibrations and the fact that although people come from all over they aren't that different at cultural core. Most early human programming is pretty consistent.

How would early human programming make one likely to believe in synchronicity and a global spiritual awakening?

Although we come from all walks of life the basic believe in a creator I believe is a cultural teaching. It's roots I believe are in death anxiety which I also believe was the impetus for the change from hunter gatherer to farming and large cities with large cultures. Religion evolves into ever more complex forms just like culture becomes more complex.

But a Creator is not necessarily needed for a global shift in consciousness; just a lot of individuals choosing to become more conscious...or the Tao unfolding in such a way that awareness increases.

A global shift in consciousness is a religious belief IMO and so has a connection.

Tao=Twas ever thus. Look again at the cyclical nature of human culture. Rise up fall down again and again. Any positive global shift in consciousness will most likely be followed by a dark age. In fact I think the global positive shift in this cycle has already occurred and we are now slipping into darkness once again. The one thing that I think may interrupt this process would be extinction and that is most likely just a matter of time. We are just twig on a branch in the tree of life.

I don't know, but it's strange to me that now wherever I go, people are talking about "people are becoming more spiritual" and "it is now more important than ever to get control of the mind". I mean like, 1 in 5 people I run into - people at work, people at the bus stop, etc. I know, I know: What the thinker thinks, the prover proves. So maybe we're about to prove that a mass shift in consciousness is indeed possible.

What makes you think this, besides cynicism?

I know what you mean man.  I'm basically totally split evenly on this.  I like what Ram Dass says, which is that anything could happen...a global awakening or some sort of horrible flesh eating disease...and the most important thing would regardless be compassion and awareness of the perfection which is all existence. :sun:

Maybe...

If you travel to many parts of the country you will see things differently.

If I went by my little new agey town I would think things weren't too bad off. But take a trip to Kansas and ask the farmers what they think of your spirituality. You might just be seen as the devil.:hellfire:

we are in the midst of darkness now. It's increasing rapidly and as things get worse i think we'll see spikes in paranormal activity and increased synchronicities. The trend seems to be that at the end of each age there is the dawn of of a new, and it's usually a beautiful time for many fields.

The world is pretty much in complete turmoil and on the brink of a huge international incident and on the coat tails of the bhutto assassination. It's going to be pretty bad over the next five years, but it must get worse before it gets better.

What makes you think this, besides cynicism?

Why does noticing human natures ups and downs equate to cynicism?

What "makes" me think this is I study history and I take notice of trends around me. Also I don't fear death as much as I used to so I have less points to defend and can take a more (IMO) unbiased look at things.

It doesn't, I apologize for projecting cynicism on to your words. I don't necessarily disagree with you either, and I am occasionally overcome with doubt for the coming years due to what I see going on around me with surveillance going up everywhere and much divisiveness in society. Especially here in Toronto, the most multi-cultural diverse city in the world, there is a dangerous lack of cohesiveness.

Things fall apart. This is natures way. This is hard for us to take. It speaks of death and loss. We are dreamers for the most part I believe. Our dreams are made up of our hopes and fears and we project them out onto the tapestry of our lives and the world we see. Really we want to succeed and find a happy ending and keep on doing pleasurable things forever. And if things aren't pleasurable right now we think that given time they will be.

This just isn't natures way in the material world. Death and decay are the natural consequences of life and energy. It's all yin and yang, creation and destruction. I think one thing that really scares many of us is the thought that that is all there is to the game and no one is looking down on us and out for us and we will soon meet the common fate and be gone forever and all those hopes and dreams will come to naught.

To survive this Carlos Castaneda (and others although IMO not so poignantly) created the idea of the warriors way. It's the only way to look into all this and survive the sight according to him and I agree. One has to create a new paradigm (shields) to survive outside of the programming of culture. If humanity is ever to really change emotionally, then IMO we will have to deal effectively and positively with death.
