Insomnia
    #7863964 - 01/11/08 08:24 AM (16 years, 21 days ago)

I used to have the kind where I couldn't fall asleep at night. Learned some relaxation techniques and was able to get past it.

Now I fall asleep just fine but wake up in the middle of the night and cannot get back to sleep. The relaxation techniques aren't working. I hate only getting 3 or 4 hrs a night!

Any suggestions?

Just take Nyquil every night before bed. Double the dose every week or so to take care of any tolerance issues, and you will sleep like a baby.

Am I suppressing any problems atm? Oh yes. Can I talk about them here? Unfortunately no.

Our household is normally in chaos until about 9 pm. Then there is a couple of hours to wind down before bedtime.

The problems are what keep going thru my head when I wake up. The problem is that I can't do anything about them just yet. I have to just wait them out.

There is a big change on the horizon for me. I just know it. But I can't do anything to hurry it up. Well I could but it would be detrimental.

I know that is vague, sorry.

I recommend getting up when you wake up in the middle of the night.  Have a pen & notebook ready, and write down your entire stream of consciousness.  Get it all out onto paper, then go back to bed & breathe slowly and deeply.  Visualize all the thoughts in your head having been "downloaded" by the notebook, leaving nothing but sleep behind.

Works for me.

Also, don't take Nyquil.  It is crap.

Quote:

Active Ingredients (in each 15 ml tablespoon) (Purpose)
Dextromethorphan HBr 15 mg (Cough suppressant)
Doxylamine succinate 6.25 mg (Antihistamine)

Inactive Ingredients
Alcohol, citric acid, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Red No. 40, flavor, high fructose corn syrup, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, purified water, saccharin sodium, sodium citrate

Valerian is a highly effective herbal sleep aid, and it does not have toxic Red food dye & alcohol & other crud in it.  It does smell awful, though, so try it mixed with a bit of sweet juice or in a capsule.  Take it about 1 hour before you want to fall asleep.

Thank you everyone.

Valerian root comes in liquid form correct? I could probably just put a couple of drops in something I drank before bedtime.

valerian root, personally has never done anything for me. I suffer from terrible insomnia too.

other than xanax. I reccomend that you go running and take a hot shower afterwards before going to sleep, that usually helps a great deal with me.

typically, I only wake up at odd hours when I'm not staying on some kind of regular sleeping schedule. maybe that's the case with you mushbaby?

if i cant sleep its because of my overactive mind. when i realize this i usualy focus it on some other senses (listen conciously to silent repetitive music). or i focus with my closed eyes on images which are running in the semisleep state. generaly i switch from thinking into percieving, and at i some point i sleep (:
