Apprehension/Anxiety

For those of us with a tedious relationship with fungus, I'm curious how you overcome your apprehension. I've had some intimidating trips, not necessarily all bad, just intense, and I find myself wrestling with my decision to eat them.
I think my biggest problem is that I can be a bit of a control freak, and so those intense trips where I lose that control freaks me out sometimes. Regardless, I cherish mushrooms and hope to overcome this anxiety one day. Anyone else feel this way, or have any knowledge to share on the subject?

I can relate entirely! I am such a control freak when it comes to my state of consciousness and behavior. I've had anxiety since early childhood and have developed an entire lifestyle from anxiety and obsessive thinking. I was also a child hypochondriac who would have at least one anxiety attack per day.
Now, as an adult, I have been learning about the fallacies of anxiety, ego, and thought processes. I am slowly getting over my fear of losing control.
You get control by letting go of the need to control.
I suggest you do very low doses and examine your thought process when you begin to react and replace the negative thought with a factual, positive one. It helps A LOT to write down the negative and the positive replacement. There is therapy in writing.

I too have this problem.
I'm glad to see it's common.
My last mushroom trip was extremely scary.
I haven't ate them since,
But I plan to soon.

I feel the same way about DMT.. I have a gram of this stuff and it's been months since i last touched it.. Although my shroom trips are not uncomfortable per se, more often than not, it does feel like everything is hanging by a thread and could spin out of control at any given moment so I do experience some anxiety but LSD on the other hand has been extremely good to me...

You just need to realize that, in the end, it will be good and you will be glad you did it. Because, remember, beyond expanding your consciousness, mushrooms are fun.
It can sometimes be hard to get yourself to think about the amazing times you've had, but if you just have faith, the mushrooms will treat you well. I, too am a control freak (a designer by profession will do that to you) and I often battle with myself during trips to just let go and forget about the anxiety. However, if I think about tripping longer, I start to remember those amazing times where everything is colorful, beautiful and mind-opening -- that's when I get the desire back.
Another suggestion might be to read the 'glowing experiences' trip reports on erowid. Works every time for me.

I think apprehension can also be a good thing since it can force you to really prepare yourself for a trip. For me that means a lot of meditation, a lot of rest, making sure the setting is excellent and so on.
And being somewhat prepared gives me a feeling of faith that I'll be ok. If I'm having a difficult moment during a trip I can relax myself and let go because im in the right set and setting.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad its a common feeling for other people too. Meditation sounds like a good idea, I'll give that a try. I read some of those "glowing" trip reports last night, and I was almost feeling a physical high for a little bit. Anyways thanks for the help.
