To case or not to case?

I've read that colonized coir does not need to be cased to fruit. Can the same hold true for Hpoo?

yeah, because coir and hpoo can hold moisture fairly well on their own

Wow! is it a moisture thing? all this casing? Could I have gotten by without ever casing my Hpoo pans? What about the non-nutritive layer? is that triggering something?

I hope you guys aren't steering me in the wrong direction, because if that is the case I totally trust the humidity system of my FC to ensure there is no moisture loss, if anything they gain. I use a double nebulizer set-up, I can create and keep a fog even with the FAE.

you don't need a casing layer for a bulk substrate of horse poo...

but you will usually get a better pin set if you use a casing layer or put a layer of wax paper down on top of the substrate...

I've had really good results not using a casing layer on horse poo in the past.

and some of my largest fruits that I have grown have been on uncased bulk substrates of horse poo.
