the closest we will ever get to "time travel"
    #7860753 - 01/10/08 05:40 PM (16 years, 22 days ago)

I dont think we will ever be able to travel into the future.

but I believe that there will come a point where we can access any moment and experience it from then on.
Follow.
Right now we preserve the past with digital camcorders, cameras, audio clips.... basically there is some form of sensoral "vault of media" for every sense (i cant hink of one for smell).
But anyway, I think that we will advance to the point where we can hit a button or whatever and it will record and capture the reality of everything in some radius... maybe even to the point that every part of the world is constantly being recorded in such a way that you can travel to any point and place in time that was recorded this way.
I think that is all we are ever going to do.... even if we last millions and billions more years.... the sci-fi idea of time travel will never happen. ever.

I dont think we will ever be able to travel into the future.

We already do.

Every time you drive your car, your watch slows down very slightly compared to someone on the sidewalk.

At ordinary speeds, the difference is too small to notice. But if you drove at nearly the speed of light for what seems to you one minute, when you stop the car, the guy on the sidewalk will have died of old age.

You will have experienced the passing of one minute. The guy standing on the sidewalk experienced the passing of 100 years.

The closer to the speed of light you drive your car, the bigger this time difference becomes. The catch is that you can never go back, only forward.

This is a prediction of Einstein's Relativity, but it isn't theoretical. It's been verified experimentally to very high accuracy. In fact, Einstein's equations are used in GPS because without compensating for the satellites traveling into the future, the range measurements would be inaccurate.

2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

im not going speculate on what the machinations are going to be since right now I can only really base it off what would be considered primitive technology (relative to the time period where this would be feasible).
but it would be complete/full immersion to the point that you could choose to live in a loop with someone you lost, or put yourself back a year and then you could relatively travel forward in time by coming back to the present after a year, which would mean that you skipped a year ahead, but lived the same year twice....

Even if we were able to travel to a particular geographical place, fully represented as it was at some point in time, we could not travel back to ourselves.  Our inner experiences would not be recorded, nor would we be able to interact with others, as they would merely be recorded doing what they were doing at the time.

Doesn't sound like much fun to me.

i agree... but that is about as good as it will ever get IMO.

diploid... I think going unconscious for 10 minutes is more time travelling than driving in a car. I understand the relativity, but it really isnt time travel in the sci-fi sense. if anything it is the speeding up of time, rather than "skipping" to a different time.

Agreed. I don't think that "time travel" in the way it is portrayed in Sci-fi/fantasy is possible, because time does not exist outside of our perception. The only thing that is real is the present, and that moment passes even as we become aware of it. All else is memory or fantasy.

once i was with the idea that , to travel to space we will not use any other machine will be use less imean flying machines , and that in future will be developed certain type of people that can dominate space travel sort of the astronauts of today , but the machine will consist in some sort of chair and certain apparatus that introduce several specific refine, substances and will be like a trip , but more control, for the machinery and directed to some point, i mean design to use as space travel so will visit this place but maybe not in total body but in a projection of their minds ,
but in a way i also think In time travel and figure out will be the same thing just adjust few setting .
all my best vibration.

Dreams can be of the potential future.
Thus one can in some sense see what can happen, before it happens.
