How would they do that? The only ones who can charge us money are our Internet providers. We would pay tax on items purchased online, but other than that, there can't be any taxes.

Actually if what the tax bill is like the one the proposed in the EU than I don't have a major problem with it. Assuming that the tax is returned to the states where the product derived.
Maybe I am missing something here? But ain't we talking about a VAT tax which is a lot like a sales tax. If I go to the store across the street and buy something I am expected to pay tax on it. So why should the government give special treatment to internet businesses? Sounds a lot like big corporate give aways to special interests.

lol . . . dude chill, all I am saying is that if we are going to tax some businesses then maybe we should tax them all more equaly. Its not like their charging for useage or anything. Just purtcheses. If they said that they were only going to charge Pepsi sales tax but not Coke I would be upset with that, even though I drink Coke.
Now if you want to argue that we shouldn't have sales tax at all, I am all for it.

most states don't give special treatment to internet commerce, just hard to enforce
If the states want to step up their enforcment efforts, thats fine.
The federal government has no buisness in this. The states shouldnt' collect either cuz their is no strain on the locality from ecommerce like a store would establish. There is no extra traffic, no need for police and courts to prosecute shoplifters, burglers et cet.
ecommerce costs the locality nothing, and the merchant allready pays income tax, so why should the feds step in and start distributing the money?

Here Here
It's high time to stop these asholes from using our taxes to fund their wars and make THEIR friends rich.
That being said until we get up the nerve to actualy partisipate en mass in our government and form much needed change, we can tax "THEIR friends" i.e. multi-national internet businesses, and lower the tax rate on the rest of us. Right?

Untrue, identity theft, hacking, fraud all exist with internet business which have to be dealt with by police. So does increased use of roads for shipping products, phone lines for carrying the internet. And again why would any state want their brick and mortar business' to start competing with untaxed internet businesses?
Again if you want to argue that we shouldn't have sales tax, property tax, or anyone of the flat/regressive taxes out there I am all for it. But if we do have taxes then their is no doubt that they should be applied to everyone. To do otherwise would be yet another way for some large businesses to not pay their fair share.

I would prefer sales tax to income tax.
taxes are a necessary evil.
