Supplier, let me tell you how I did my first casing. I used 3 PF cakes(the cakes were 3in tall), I dunked them, placed them close together in a pan, then generously shook a casing mix over top of them ensuring it fell in between the cakes, it was simple and it worked very good. My casing mix was 2 cups verm, 2 cups peat, generous 1/2 cup of gypsum, then brought it to field capacity- I microwave sterilized the mix.

hrmm... well from what i heard breaking the cakes up is more effective than just setting them into the pan hole...and how long did u microwave that for and did u add water to that mix before u microwaved it?

That's just what I did for my first casing, it was simple and worked well.------------- Bring it to field capacity before microwaving. To sterilize the casing mix in a microwave is a matter of sense. I used two minute intervals for quite a few times till I felt the proper temp. was attained throughout, but every time you do it it will be different.

yea i understand that. but i think for my first one im just going to do a 2 cake casing with just verm/perlite, so theres not really any nutrians to get contaminated and im just going to steam the verm/perlite for 60 mins in jars that the lids are loose on them then start layering. im going to follow dontplay's little one he did just so i get the feel of it and the hole misting etc down before i go into the ph testing and 50/50 casings.

it's not worth it, it's from walmart but i couldn't find any that carry it anymore.. i went to lowe's and got vermiculite and peat moss. then buy 5 lbs of hydrated lime, it will last you forever.

I picked up two bags last night for 3.49 a piece at Home Depot. I couldnt find hydrated lime so this was my only option for 50/50+
