FUSION SHOOM GROWING???

Hey I was just thinking the other day that it might be possible to grow mushrooms on Rockwool, the spun volcanic rock that you use in hydroponic growing. This medium gives you 2 different kinds, the rockwool that absorbs water and the kind that doesn't. Would it be possible to get the "network" to establish itself on the rockwool and then just feed it nutrients just like a plant? Granted they need differen't food but couldn't they nutrients be put into a liquid? Wonder if anyone wants to tackel this idea?......

i havent heard much of anything on using rockwool, but people obviously use other hydroponic mediums for mushroom growing such as geo-lite pellets as seen w/ the hydrapod. I think this would have to be a hydration method for pf style cakes like the hydrapod is, getting mycelium to grow on the actual rockwool most likely wouldn't work. try it yourself, I wouldnt mind seeing this experiment in the grow log forum.

Just yesterday I had the same idea. I'm ordering some Rockwool and Oasis cube sheets. The plan is to embed a cotton for-water wick in the bottom of the cubes, then suspend the cubes a few inches over the bottom of this container I built, with the wick dangling down to the bottom. At this point, I will take some mycelium from an agar plate and place it in a small hole in the cube. As needed, I'm going to boil some rye berries and straw in water, cool the water off, then add the nutrient-rich water into the bottom of the container using this fatty syringe I have, injecting the needle through a septum plug on the side, near the bottom. We'll see how things go for me. I'd love to hear what kind of results you have too.

Sounds like a cool project stcore, I would really like to know how it turns out. I had a thought about your set up, is the resvior (sp?) sealed? how are you going to stop other molds and stuff from growing ? If you feel like chatting about this some more drop me a line at jelsert@mindspring.com
