What's the deal with marginal candidates

People like Hunter, Kucinich, Biden, etc... they're all cut from the same dough so why are people like this always at the bottom of the pack when they pretty much are carbon copies of the people at the top of the pack?
McCain is smart enough to get his ass on the Daily Show all the time and flaunts his war history. Hillary has her husband's penis to thank. Edwards was a VP candidate, Obama's the token black guy. And guiliani is clinging desperately to his 9/11 fame.
But for people like Romney and Huckabee? WTF. What makes them more popular than the people at the bottom of the pack?
Huckabee was at the bottom of the polls a few months ago.. another hillbilly republican that was expected to drop out at any time... Why the sudden surge of popularity? Are people really just fascinated with the fact that he looks like Howdy Doody with sulpheric acid thrown in his face?
This presidential race just plain baffles me.
I mean jesus... last year... look at the endorsements. You had Bruce Fucking SPRINGSTEIN backing John Kerry. Bruce is the MAN.... Now That's an endorsement.
People now are running on the fact that they're supported by Oprah and Chuck FUCKING Norris? Gimme a BREAK!
Bruce is the voice of a generation. Oprah's the voice of a bunch of 30 year old fat ass housewives and chuck norris ... BARF! How the fuck does an endorsement by Chuck Norris give you any god damn points? Here in Maryland that would make you LOSE points (unless you live in Arbutus.. KOTT can back me on this probably.. I know he's from Baltimore)
What the HELL is going on!
This country HAS GONE MADD!! MAAAD I TELL YOU!! MAAAAAD!!! AHHHH!!!
(Smokes a joint and jumps out of the window)

The Chuck Norris commercial is what put Huckabee on the map and is when he started getting a bunch of free and positive media attention.
I guess some Americans are so dumb, they think they are voting for Chuck Norris or Oprah Winfrey when they vote for these guys.
When you ask people who support them, why they do, they don't seem to know much about them.
Like a neighbor of mine who is liking both Paul and Huck. I asked him why Huck. He said, " He's a very articulate speaker." I said, " I know, but what is it he is articulating so well that you like." He said, " That ability will help him sway people to get things done. " I asked, " Do you know what he stands for that he will be working on to get done?" He laughed it off like being persuasive is all that matters, not what it is you are trying to persuade."

Still working on him to sway over to Paul.
Last June, when I first asked my sister in Illinois who she was leaning towards she said, " Obama." I asked her why. She said, "I don't know, he's really popular here."
( She knows better about them all now and is voting for Paul in her states primary.) She likes what he stands for best, and has come to the conclusion the rest are all liars, yet complains he doesn't sell himself well and needs to watch his imaging better. I agree and that's only because, candidates have to appeal to superficial voters to get the mother load.
I found out last night, my 72 year old die hard Republican dad, is voting for Democrat Hillary. My dad is a war mongering chauvenist and voting Hillary ONLY because he doesn't want Obama in, because he is also racist.
I was left speechless.
WTF is so wrong with people? Put him under the people who are "mad"
I've shifted to becoming less concerned about who gets in the WH and more concerned about the 300,000,000 people I am surrounded by.

Until just a few weeks ago Huckabee was a marginal candidate. I suspect he will be again soon.

10 years down the road when we're still making Chuck Norris jokes, we'll be able to say:
Chuck Norris is so tough..
How tough is he?
Chuck Norris is so tough....
... he helped even HUCKABEE win IOWA!
OH SNAP!

I remember the first episode where nbc bought the company that made walker and he had that little level he'd randomly pull to show walker clips.
I love it.
Can you believe Chuck's actually 67 years old? HE's older than most of the candidates! Jesus christ!
I like to think RETURN of the Drag was where Chuck became famous.
