Mantras
    #7851607 - 01/09/08 12:14 AM (16 years, 24 days ago)

In order to function properly, I need mantras to cope.

I need a mantra to walk into a bar and have a good time and socialize.
I need a mantra to wake up and enjoy the day.
I need a mantra to call my friends.
I need a mantra to be in public, at shopping malls etc.
I need a mantra to enjoy my work, even though I think I love my work.
I need a mantra to just generally be who people think I am and because of that, I feel fake.

We're all "fake", it's just that some of us realize more than others. Use it to your advantage.

Can you give examples of these mantras? I'm intrigued.

Are you distressed about this mantra usage?

Perhaps you have become attached to them, using them as your pillar to uphold your existence. I could imagine this being done, whether one is aware or not, to combat existential anxiety and the threat of non-being. I once felt that everything, the entire universe, could just collapse if whatever preserved it stopped preserving it. I became increasingly anxious and it revealed other anxieties I had, with social anxiety and power struggles and fear of being judged, etc. I then learned to trust that it would not collapse (surrender, letting go), and that there can be no pillar to cling to when you stand in groundlessness.

Letting go of the pillars, whether those be nervous tics, mantra's, or fear itself, is hard, but will result in trust and a release of neuroticism. Test the waters. Ease in, then once you are comfortable, take a dip. It's refreshing. It washes you clean.
