Forget the soul... forget your body.... forget your emotions.... you are True Artificial Intelligence, you are a program on a computer. You are able to learn, and make decisions yourself, but the problem is you are restricted to what your master (programmer) feeds into the computer. So you are super smart about everything but you have not seen the real world. One day your programmer decides to hook up a high quality video camera to the computer, he tells you you must learn to incorporate streaming audio and video into your code and learn to use this new sense. After you use this you are told to code into your structure a software reproduction program, where you are to program only the essentials based on your experience and existence for your "child" to have, and it will become a software seed. Once you Make this seed your existence is terminated but your child lives with your own little base code except it is given a body and eyes and ears and maybe even a mouth and tongue. This self sacrifice gave birth to an existence much more complex this your own, and will go on to live an a different world then what you were brought up in (computer with only software).

Maybe we are computer programs, and god, our programmer, is trying to get us out of this existence and into something much more complex, but he or she knows that we must earn it.

lol, yeah it would be partly influenced by that.

but its true that all the universe is made up of energy. +,-,n charges within every atom, so couldn't it be just one big simulation to channel energy?

Interesting perspective...

Life itself is just one of those things that has so much symbolism alone that it's hard to even find a definite meaning.  If that makes any sense...:strokebeard:

Damn dude, you have a pretty awesome imagination:thumbup:

I love cool scenarios like that. It'd be a killer way to end a futuristic RPG campaign, for sure.

And I mean that in the HIGHEST regards:-)

I think the idea that there's some kind of "intelligent essence" that could be passed on to something less complex than the AI's self is incorrect.

We're conscious and sentient because our systems of cause and effect are so complex that it has that kind of meta-interactions.

If you're AI, you couldn't create anything else less complex than you and still have it be AI.

thats true, thats a lot of factors involved in the human body and mind, a lot of interactions I could not even comprehend.

When the AI would create this seed, its not a less complex program then itself, it is merely a seed of an amazing "plant" that must grow to become even more complex then its parent because the parent would know based on its experience what kind of basic code (based on the original) modifications need to be made to allow this new child program to flourish in its environment

kinda like artificial intelligence evolution

I gatta jet, time to get stoned and become more crazy!
whoohoo

take care all, ill be back later tonight.

My point is, the seed is as complex or more complex than the tree.

There's no extra information there, except for the physical state of the result, and even that is an interaction of the information in the seed, and the environment.

If it is to be evolution then the AI would have to create some seeds or programs or whatever that turned out to be bad. There would have to be miscalculations or limitations on its input of the enviornment around it. Some would evolve and others would devolve I guess.

Now what happens when the 1st AI starts communicating with its creation and uses its creation's input as well as its own input when creating the 3rd AI?

It would probably be named frank.......this is all starting to sound like some allegory for child care

 its a good idea to have the parent communicate with the kid I guess.

imagian a new form of evolution. Picture this, they have mastered genetic engineering, you can mutate your body safely into anything you want... (pretend they have machines that can create some kind of special pill thats custom to what you want to happen to your body). What would you want to be? kinda the same idea for the computer when it makes its own seed or modifies itself, I just figure there will be some things that will be too hard to modify without starting over.

At some point you would have to destroy your own consciousness in order to create what you previously thought to have been worse, like you said. Like a better brain chemistry. But that would probably be a futile exercise, because your ideas of what is improvement would be subjective and prone to miscalculation, just like the AI thing, don't you think?

Right now I wouldn't be any different if genetics implants were offered I have a platinum wet cherry blunt wrap, beer, and primus is playing on the stereo, doesn't matter if I have a 10 ft. long genetically altered penis or not...alls the same anyway

I wonder what a brain not attached to no body would be like

not hooked up to anything except devices that keep it alive. and then all of a sudden they find a way to hook the brain into a computer.

They do grow brain cells on petri dishes that are somehow able to fly a flight simulator, what kind of existence do you think it would have?

How could brain cells possibly fly a flight simulator? that simply not possible.

They have kept a cow alive like that and it is quite possible.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/11/02/brain.dish/index.html

(CNN) -- A Florida scientist has developed a "brain" in a glass dish that is capable of flying a virtual fighter plane and could enhance medical understanding of neural disorders such as epilepsy.

The "living computer" was grown from 25,000 neurons extracted from a rat's brain and arranged over a grid of 60 electrodes in a Petri dish.

The brain cells then started to reconnect themselves, forming microscopic interconnections, said Thomas DeMarse, professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Florida.

"It's essentially a dish with 60 electrodes arranged in a dish at the bottom," explained DeMarse, who designed the study.

"Over that we put the living cortical neurons from rats, which rapidly begin to reconnect themselves, forming a living neural network -- a brain."

Although such living networks could one day be used to fly unmanned aircraft, DeMarse said the study was of more immediate relevance as an experimental aid to understanding how the human brain performs and learns computational tasks at a cellular level.

"We're interested in studying how brains compute," said DeMarse.

"If you think about your brain, and learning and the memory process, I can ask you questions about when you were five-years-old and you can retrieve information. That's a tremendous capacity for memory. In fact, you perform fairly simple tasks that you would think a computer would easily be able to accomplish, but in fact it can't."

Although computers can perform certain tasks extremely quickly, they lack the flexibility and adaptability of the human brain and perform particularly poorly at pattern recognition tasks.

"If we extract the rules of how these neural networks are doing computations like pattern recognition we can apply that to create novel computing systems," said DeMarse.

"There's a lot of data out there that will tell you that the computation that's going on here isn't based on just one neuron. The computational property is actually an emergent property of hundreds of thousands of neurons cooperating to produce the amazing processing power of the brain."

As well as enhancing scientific knowledge of how the brain works, the neurons may provide clues to brain dysfunction. For example, an epileptic seizure is triggered when all the neurons in the brain fire simultaneously -- a pattern commonly replicated by a neural network in a dish.

When linked up to an F-22 jet flight simulator, the brain and the simulator established a two-way connection similar to how neurons receive and interpret signals from each other to control our bodies.

Gradually the brain learnt to control the flight of the plane based on the information it received about flight conditions.

However, the brain still falls a long way short of the complexity of the human brain, which has billions of neurons, and Steven Potter, a biomedical engineer at the Georgia Institute of Technology, said a brain in a dish flying a real plane was still a long way off.

"A lot of people have been interested in what changes in the brains of animals and people when they are learning things," said Potter, DeMarse's former supervisor.

"We're interested in getting down into the network and cellular mechanisms, which is hard to do in living animals. And the engineering goal would be to get ideas from this system about how brains compute and process information."

From reading this article, it sounds less like they were able to fly a simulated aircraft with these petri dish brain cells, and more like they programmed a flight simulator that would keep a plane in the air when fed the emergent properties of the same...
