another casing question
    #7848996 - 01/08/08 04:52 PM (16 years, 24 days ago)

I'm getting shrooms, but not prolific flushes like I should be getting from the colonized Hpoo pans. Right now I apply 1/4 to 1/2 inch of casing and no myc shows through. Should I apply less casing? should some spots of myc be visible?

Check out Hyphae's pinning strategy in my signature, hopefully that will help you.

I know you generally use substrate: casing in a 4:1 ratio. theres also details on patching as well.

Hey Resptood, check your PMs.

On the same note, I think it is more likely due to genetics rather than the depth of your casing layer. Unless of course your doing something really nutty and not following the general rules of casing layers. Isolating stronger genomes has a huge difference on the quality and quantity of your pin sets.

There's a little bit of luck involved too

yeah thats another good point, with multi-spore inoculations you are pretty much rolling the dice with genetics.

creamcorn's LC/cloning tek in my signature is absolutely brilliant and extremely newbie friendly

I'm following general rules very closely, and I have read Hyphae's pinning strategy. My FC is (IMHO) very good, temp controlled, humidification, FAE, timers for lighting. I guess I shouldn't be complaining, I have fruits, just much less quantity than I anticipated and expected. I think I'm going to start isolating and cloning. But I don't think what I have is worth the effort-Ec, KS, GT, all syringes thru spores101. (Anyone willing to part with a "strong" strain print or syringe? I don't know if I don't ask.)

What are you talking about! Those are very good strains! Are you working with agar? (I assume you are) By the way, in my experience, Puerto Rican has been the most aggressive colonizer I've worked with.

Yeah, that's why I bought them, I thought them to be "good" strains. But, I do find them "lacking" as compared to fruits I've experienced elsewhere(off-subject). I've been using multi-spore syringes for my cults', could that be the reason for my low yields? Do clone LCs improve yields? I'm stepping into territory I have absolutely no knowledge about. And if I do start working from clone LCs, I want to work with a proven "strong" strain. None of the fruits I've harvested so far would be worth the effort. Anyone ever work with pink buffalo?

Sorry for asking ,but, I can't find this so called "market place" (I don't even think it exists). I know there are alot of "old timers" out there who have isolated and cloned some very "strong strains" I'm not sure if it is impolite or against the rules to ask to trade or purchase a spore print or syringe of an isolated strain. Where would I go to ask, or who should I ask?

you cant use a spore print or syringe unless its l.c. and that agianst the rules sorry you will have to go multi spore.

Uh, Mistique what's against the rules?---If I take a fruit, clone it in an agar petri then spawn to stuff, the results may be higher yields due to all the same genetics as opposed to a multi spore inoc'?

an isolated strain like you want would have to be shipped as a culture slant or an lc something like that and they are all illegal and active. You would have to be shipped spores and that would start multi spore incoulation all over.

Dont buy spores for spores101. They are terrible and known for bunk product, I myself have received shitty product on 2 occasions from spores101, and they have also been removed as a shroomery sponsor due to their lack of ethical business practices.

you should post a picture of your FC

No shit?! The spores syringes I have now are replacements for poor syringes from them. I spent the only money I had buying syringes from them. Damnit I knew something was fucked-up about them. Can 'ya spare a print? 1/2 print?

It's cool. But one would think that following a sponsor link your sure to get a decent product, live and learn.
