That's pretty neat. I wonder just exactly how much power it takes to compress that air.
Still, for that price, I wouldn't mind having one for city traveling. But only if it had a better design, maybe like the white sports hatchback in the 2nd vid.

That's some inventive technology. I also wonder how efficient it is, fossil energy->movement of car.

Wow. Thats one hell of an engine design.
However, how much fossil fuel is consumed compressing air?

With that proposed on board fossil fuel combustion engine compressing air you have a efficiency rating of around 40% of the fuel engine(So 60% of the energy stored in the fuel is lost as heat)(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_combustion_engine#Engine_Efficiency). Then you also have a efficiency loss at compressing air, and then again at using the compressed air to power the air motor.
All in all it is definitely more efficient to use the combustion engine directly to power a car.

The video says that with the current design you can cross from the west coast of the US to the east coast with one tank of gas, while the compressed air would need refilling every 200 km, for about $2.

That really makes no sense to me. That only helps in reducing harmful(to humans) emissions in cities, when you compress the air in a rural area. That makes it pretty equal to electric hybrid cars as far as I can see.
Thanks for the info and links Anno! I was too lazy to search.
edit: The main problems stays how to get the energy, not how to store it. Efficient conversion methods and lighter cars(give up some safety) would also help.
Take the bus or bike though!

Fossil? This sort of thing could run from any electricity source. Either way, this seems far more likely to take off than hydrogen fuel.
That combined cam/piston engine looks very similar to a four chambered model which rolled around on bearings. I imagine it's more efficent, due to less friction.
I would like to see how a Tesla turbine, with compressed air or burning fuel/air mixture would compare in efficencies to these compressed air engines.

And from where would you obtain this electrity you speak of in say less than 10 years in a large scale?

Nuclear, obviously. It is much more profitable to deal with pollution that stays toxic for tens of thousands of years or longer.
