Oral surgeon appointment today!

I finally get to hear the details of how my wisdom teeth will be plucked from my skull today! I'm going to insist they put me out, that's my number one priority. Second, I'll find out how much my insurance will cover. I'm told I have good insurance (Delta Dental's Comprehensive plan) but we'll see...
I really hope I get some good painkillers too. Not because they're fun, but teeth REALLY bug me out and I don't want to feel any of that. I just need enough for the first few days of throbbing and swelling.
What else should I expect/prepare for?

you'll probably get sick, from swallowing blood. the headache is horrible, i found myself pretty irritable for the first week. ice cream and pudding are your friends. the painkillers have their moments, but the constipation was a bitch. in general, the experience really sucked for me - 2 impacted on bottom and the other 2 up top, painful shit

Mine are already grown in, but the dentist wants them out because they're really dark. They're hard to brush and I'm always biting my god damn cheek open when I chew gum so I definitely agree. I'm hoping they're easier to remove since they're already above the gums.

hmm...it ranges as far as pain goes. I took meds the day or so...I felt relatively little pain in between doses. After that...it was just a slight soreness that slowly faded.
For me, the the worse parts were: A) The Blood. You bleed like a motherfucker for the first 5 hours or so. Kinda gross.
B) Your going to have complete holes in your inner cheeks. This is probably more of a mental thing than a physical...but just seeing dark bottomless pits in my mouth really got me. And food and shit gets in there...in which you have to clean out after every meal.
but in all honesty...I think people make a bigger deal than this proceeder really is. Good luck, your going to be fine.

ya i still gots to get my wisdom teeth out.. only thing is that they haven't broken through yet..
they have hurt intensely before, but it's been a while.. i'm thinking about waiting until they bother me again to get them taken out.. it might have been a one time thing.
plus it's expensive and its surgery and stuff and i dont want to have to do that if its not necessary.
smoked a whole g of salvia tonight with me and my buddy..
felt a pretty decent buzz and had some crazy effects but the other kid with us was kinda a trip killer cuz he wasn't on the lady sally..
all i can say is.. i'd rather have some shrooms (and i wish i did )
had to talk to a cop.. apparently we cant be on private property after 11 p.m. in city limits..
at least he didn't fck with us too much..

may I suggest that the constipation was due to your diet and not the pain pills... When I had my wisdom teeth taken out I shat just fine

Before you go under do one thing:
Ask for your teeth.
I did, and I got my extracted teeth afterwards. You have no idea how enormously large your wisdom teeth are until you hold them in your hands. Post the pics here afterwards.

I had five wisdom teeth taken out...and I didn't think it was so bad!
I ate dinner about 8 hours later. Didn't need any pain killers either.

I think he's talking about opiate constipation.

when they started to put me out they tipped me back in the chair so my feet were pointed at the lights and my head at the floor, as the meds kicked in my balls started to itch really bad, they kept saying you might feels some itching it will be ok...i was freaking out because i didn't think my balls were sopposed to itch thats all i could think about i kept looking at my doc and then at my balls (the whole time i wanted to speak but i couldn't)
the freakest thing about it is, you close your eyes, and then you open them and everything is over!! its like you never went to sleep, no time pasted, and you have all this cotton in your mouth and this white stuff in their, and the nurse is giving you these weird smiles like you told them all your deepest secrets

newbieshroomie,
i just got my wisdom teeth pulled 3 days ago. i got vicodin for it and if you are not taking them, it will hurt like a hell. you're not going to be able to talk for 2 days after the surgery, you should probably stock up on applesauce and baby food too.
expect to be bleeding so much on day one that when you open your mouth a little droolish waterfall of blood will come sloshing out and on to your carpet. i didn't stop bleeding until about 24 hours later.
as long as you stay pumped up on the vicodin, it won't be too terrible.
best of luck

I didn't think my wisdom tooth removal was that bad. They hit me with a couple of shots of novocain, my mouth went numb, and then the dentist pulled them out. I was %100 conscious for the whole thing. It was no big deal.

Good luck dealing with Delta Dental. I had my wisdom teeth removed while I had insurance with them. I was supposed to have two surgical removals and the coverage stated that with two or more surgical removals they would cover anesthesia. I had my procedure thinking everything was good to go and low and behold a few months later I get a bill from the oral surgeon saying I owed them $350.00 for the anesthesia. The insurance company had decided the surgical removals were not necessary so I had to pay. I tried to appeal it with the state insurance commissioner but, nothing worked. I'm sure you will do fine with your surgery. Mine didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be and I had all four removed at once. The oral surgeon gave me such good pain meds that I had to call and asked for something not so intense.

Yeah they're charging me $340. A lot less than I thought it would cost though! They prescribed me 2 valium, one the night before and one the day of (I'm taking them both the day of because I know my body and even 20mg won't do SHIT to me). He was really cool, said he'd have me on the gas, intravenous anesthetic, and a local anesthetic. I'm still buggin out though .
Thanks for reminding me badchad, I definitely want my teeth back

getting my teeth out was horrible. don't want to scare you or anything but i was on an IV, gas, and local anesthetic and completely awake through the whole thing. not too fun. worst part as one that was rooted pretty well, he had to use his weight as leverage against the tooth and it fuckin hurt like hell even being pumped full of drugs. got vics after but didn't find that i needed them so much, saved em for another time. i think i still have like 10 or so lying around somewhere haha.
hopefully i'll never need a serious surgery and find that i'm entirely conscious with my body wide open, ugghhhh

Mine went very smoothly and I had the gas, IV & local anesthetic. They gave me a whole bottle of Mepergan but, I couldn't function so they gave me Hydrocodone. My jaw felt a little rusty a few days later but, that was the worst of it.

I made a note on my forms that I may require a higher dose of anesthetic and I explained my ingrown toenail removal disaster when I could still feel every cut and slice even with the 4-5 shots he gave me. He assured me that there's nothing to worry about, he'd take good care of me... . And yeah my script co-pay blows asshole. I had to pay $10 for TWO FUCKING VALIUMS! I told the CVS drive thru, "Shit....I could find this on the STREET for cheaper. " Oh well.
