I am 98% sure of these but thought I might actually try and eat them so figured it would be good to see if anyone here had a second opinion first. About a week and a half ago I went out walking and found a pretty purple mushroom. I took a few pics and admired it for a bit and then walked on. Today I decided to return to see what happened to some really small ones that were there that day and found a whole bunch of them. I took 5 and ran home to do the id and see how to cook them.

* Habitat East side of South bay Santa Cruz mountain foothills. Just off a walking trail around and on a rotting log and amongst duff. Bay trees and scrub oak growing above. * Characteristics of the gills The gills are a pretty light purple color There is a little notch where they attach to the stipe, like a tiny little letter 'u' next to the stipe in the line of the gill. * Characteristics of the stem The stipes vary on each mushroom from 5 to 8 cm. 1 to 2 cm wide. Solid and fibrous. The color is made up of two altering shades of purple, one very light and lilac, the other a little darker. No veil or annulus apparent. * Characteristics of the cap (diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc) Varying from 3 to 9 cm across. The smaller ones are kind of domed, the larger more mature specimens have caps that have flattened out. Young caps have a strong purple color, with a tan blotchyness starting in the center and moving out the older the mushroom is. The edge of the cap curls over the ends of the gills. * Spore print color Taking a print now. * Color that the mushroom bruises No bruising. * Scent of the mushroom Slightly floral? Kind of like a flower note to the regular mushroom smell. I imagine it smells like lilac but that is probably just my imagination because of the purple.
Thanks for your always helpful input, the Shroomery has been a really great place for me to learn loads about mushrooms in general, not just the ones that stain blue (which I'll find someday, just not yet) Thirdwire

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

They sure look right. The spore print will make it effortless. The color you don't want to see is a rusty brown, indicating Cortinarius. It should come out a pale pinkish tan for Blewits.
Happy mushrooming!
