The last two photos represent what was really the most exciting part of the hike. What amazingly weird little things. They are actually Mycetozoa aka slime mold, which is pretty vague yet I can't be anymore specific than that. I had a really cool book on the subject however it is no longer in my possession, unfortunately I didn't really force myself to absorb the material when it was available. They are not growing on wasp nests but rather on the underside of an old polypore. Pretty tiny.
The mushrooms featured at the top are very young Flammulina velutipes, too small to feature velvety feet. Hopefully the weather will remain warm enough for them to mature.
The yellow cups are probably Bisporella citrina but I forgot to bring any home for closer inspection.
"bjardkuda did i spell it right haha , or inotus, is on birch or populus" If i remember correctly it was oak

Amazing shots. Is that cave where you live? I always kind of imagined that for you. Those last ones look like they dropped here from another planet, perhaps Xenu put them here.
What is that crazy toothed thing in your second set?

Thanks Curecat, implee. I wish you could take a look at the slime mold through a hand lens. They really are amazing, the picture doesn't do them justice, other worldly.
Xmush: I don't know what the toothy thing is and usually don't try to identify such things, however an image was posted at the mushroomexpert forum, Perhaps a crust fungi geek will chime in, however the shroomery forum is usually a little geekier. I might take a sample to a myco-meeting tomorrow... I'll let you know if anyone has an answer to this burning question. As far as the cave remark goes... no i don't live there... sand stone generally retains a fair amount of moisture in this region, the humidity irritates my sinuses... and the sand does a real number on my polyester jackets. I greatly prefer limestone caves... this does carry some disadvantage as well but what the hell can you do?

Someone at mushroomexpert.com came up with Metatrichia vesparium for this one.

That last photo is amazing. Where do you find this stuff. I think you are from another planet.
Have you ever tried flammulina velutipes?

Thanks landsnorkler... Planet Kansas... we have flying monkeys. I haven't eaten flammulina this year however past experience with them was ok. They aren't the most flavorful but you can't have fresh chanterelles year round. Have you tried them?
Here are micrographs of the slime mold taken through my thrift store microscope last night at 430X and 1000X. The rope like strands are called the capillitium. They form a tangled mass that serves to hold the spores until environmental factors, such are rain and or wind, condition dispersal.
The information above was taken from Tom Volk's October 2003 Fungus of the Month page, which features the slime mold Hemitrichia serpula, a different species than what we have here (Metatrichia vesparium) however I'm going to presume a similar process is in play. This is a pretty neat page, I recommend checking it out.

Thanks Toxicman... I guess I should point out, what you are looking at can be seen in the macro shot of the slime mold as the red tufted fuzzy stuff atop some of the fruitbodies.

Thats really about it. I put the camera on a tripod looking into the eyepiece and tweak the adjustments and position until the images are semi-clear.
