After Several (failed) attempts at growing oyster mushrooms indoors. I have given up for a while until I can get everything to the exact specifications that they apparently thrive in. Several months ago I had a batch of blue oyster fungus that had colonized a wood-chip/grain log but never pinned or showed any signs of trying to. So I placed it outside under a shade tree in a soil casing under the ground hoping maybe it would grow better under natures hand, no luck there either after months of watering regularly and looking for progress.
But to my complete shock and awe I arrived home from work this evening and brought the dogs outside to play and in the flower bed under the tree i spot three wonderful healthy looking clusters of blue oysters emerging from the ground. It has been nearly 4 months since I placed it there, I gave up on watering it, we have had no rain in about 2-3 weeks, it has dropped down to nearly 20 degrees overnight almost every night for the past 2 weeks.

nature has a way of taking care of things. baby oysters are awesome
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Thanks, but it was by no means my doing, I thank nature for that. Apparently nature is best at producing something from even the least likely of conditions, they had no water for weeks, and much less than optimal conditions. I guess this shows how agressive these fruits are in many conditions, but I just want to know why they wouldn't fruit when I tried getting them to . oh well

on a side note maybe for future experimentation, I mixed the mycelium spawn in with acorns from an oak tree (you can see one that had fallen in the picture), with the idea that maybe the oysters would like them since oak is a hardwood tree (right? ) I wonder if they did like them, or if they had any interaction at all.
