I'm really sorry that I have to post without an excessive search beforehand but its a quick question only (hope that clears me)
my (first ever)cake (bought from see the link below)grow some pinheads, but they never developed, they simply dry away. After a while new pinheads emerge on a different location on the cake, then they dry away too.
this was going on for 3 pinhead "generations" now, and I can't decide : is it because humidity is too low, or the cake is too dry? ore
bought this simple growbox : http://tinyurl.com/2unwnl
here are some pics

ty for your help

those cubes? they look like enoki or something. haha
anyway, i'd pull those off and try dunking it. also, humidity might be a tad low, but that wouldn't be causing that.
although it is possible that you got ridiculously mutated genetics and thats as big as theyre going to get. you didnt spray lysol in there did you? they look pretty weird...

Hmmm...well, the link you directed us to says it's an Edible Golden Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit. Are you attempting to grow oyster mushrooms?

that's right, those are supposed to be oysters!
it's my first try so its a test run, I'm trying to learn from it.
the cake spent approx one week more in the jar then it should had, cause I was too lazy to move it to the fruiting "sack" so it was well overgrown by myce. It spent 1 day in a bowl of water in the fridge, then my gf dunked it but instead of dry vermi she used wet vermi so only aome of it sticked to it.
still wondering what could cause these pins to dry..... my gf is very dissapointed as well

theyre not getting enough light or fresh air exchange. the stalks are long because theyre searching for light and air.
you cant grow oysters "invitro" that little filter patch on the myco bag wont exchange enough co2 and air.
birth your cake to fruiting chamber...give it quite a bit more light....and a ton of fresh air...try your best to keep your rh up.
golden oysters are a warmer climate oyster-- so temps should be above 60 for fruiting. If you search there should be some information about intiating pins for this mushroom somewhere.

I quote greys. Dunk them before putting to the fruiting chamber, but remove the pins, and wait for the new flush.
You should buy the DVDs Let's grow mushrooms by RogerRabbit. There's a tek between a million of teks that explain you how to build a fruting chamber.

Thankss for the help I'd never thought about the light issue. The bag is opened couple of times during the day, and gets sprayed with some water.
The mycelium spreaded to the layer of vermi on the bottom of the "terrarium"[see pics]. This was a strange thing to see because I never read or seen this in the tutorials/videos. I guess this is why there was always a plate under the cakes on those videos.
I will try and dunk it and move it to a bigger chamber.
I don't know if I should mention it but I chopped a couple pieces off the mycelium and put them in separate pots with honey-water. Without any intention. If something grows, that will make me happy... even if it's mold.
Thanks for the help again, and here are some recent pics:

these are some mycelieum strings. I knew it's called "strings" (at least in my language) but never thought that it's actually made from strings. The pictures had been digitaly enhanced a bit for more in-depth focus (cheapo microscope)

 this last one is cotton:)

thank's for the help! Pins are developing into bigger fruits just 2 days after being moved to a warmer place and opening up the bag for some more air exchange.
THANKS!
