Drying

Hey guys, just have a quick question. I have quite a few mexi-cubes that I've had setting in front of a fan for about a week. Their pretty dry but not so dry that they crumble when you break them apart. Are they ok to store in an airtight bag for awhile? Or do I have to dry them more?

get some desiccant (that 'do not eat silica gel' stuff from shoeboxes and shit.
then you can put it in an airtight container without much risk of rotting/contams..

I agree. But I would first fan dry them for about 24 hours. This will remove about 70-80% of moisture content. Then let the desiccant remove the remaining moisture. They have to be cracker dry!

I figured I'd just try the fanning method first, but it seems like desiccant makes things alot easier. Are the actual little packets good to use? And is it ok to put them in the bag I'm storing the shrooms in?

yes but make sure the shroomies dont directly touch the packets..
use a layer of paper towels or something..
it would probably be easier in a jar than a bag.. that's what my friend uses

If you let the desiccant do all the drying, then the desiccant will get very wet within a few days. I did that once and I had to replace the desiccant after a few days because it got really wet. If you only fan dry, then you probably won't succeed in making them cracker dry. They should break if you bent them! I don't know what you mean by little packets (I live in Europe).. anyway, the desiccant I use contains calcium chloride. Also, don't put the shrooms on the desiccant, put them on a wiremesh or something.

No need to get shitty about it, some people can't or don't want to order some crap they can go get at a local store.Especially when he has harvested shrooms that he is still trying to get dry.

Best method, hands down.

Are those the same things you make beef jerky with? My friend mentioned he had one I could use, but I wasn't sure if it involved heat.

They use heat, but some have an adjustment to turn it down. If yours doesn't, you need to disable the heating element somehow.

It's a Nesco food dehydrator with a variable heat control. Cracker dry mushrooms in 24 hours with minimal potency loss.
All the cool people are doin' it. And yes, it makes jerky too.

I don't think you can make the jerky at the same time lol, I think it would require more heat and that would hurt your mushies. But you could have both in less than 24 hours.

Damprid works but you have to replace it & it cost 3 times as much as drydite. Dryrite lasts forever. If I can't find dryrite were I live I seriously doubt you can.
Damprid sucks and is a waste of money. IMO

It's really not needed. Fan drying at moderate room temp (70*) for a day or two should do the trick.
If this still gives you trouble, add a large wattage light to the equation. I usually use one of those cheap metal clamp lights with a 120watt bulb and just let it shine, it can up the temp slightly, and when combined with a fan, will dry anything in 24hours or less.

Depends on your climate. If you live somewhere with a low air RH then yes, a fan will do. But if your local RH is a bit higher you will need dissecant to get to cracker dry.
