I'd recommend what I feel is the best book on the subject of beer homebrewing, Charlie Papazian's "New Complete Joy of Homebrewing"

For wine, I'm not sure, too much work for me, you have to rack from carboy to carboy way too many times because there is soooo much sediment.

As far as juice and cider, New Complete Joy can help, the juice can't have any type of preservative in it.

As far as concentration, home distillation is illegal and dangerous, however, when you homebrew, you'll find yourself brewing up ales and such that are very tasty and have such a high alcohol content that you won't miss hard alcohol at all.

Wine is hard to do because of wild bacteria and yeast infection, you can't just boil it like with beer brewing because boiled juice releases the pectins and you get jelly.

First, you need a real fermentation vessel like a carboy, and an airlock to keep the wild bacteria from getting in. Then you need to siphon the wine from vessel to a different vessel the fermentation slows because the sediment at the bottom of the container will make it taste bad.

I'd recommend starting with beer. Go to a homebrew shop, get cans of malt-extract they have kits with hop pellets and everything. Boil it as per the directions to infuse the hops and sanitize the wort. (unfermented beer)

it sounds to me like he's just talking about something like this only without the juice (as mentioned at the bottom of the page, actually)

it's not *quite* the same as vodka (by about 30% alcohol content) but it's certainly about the easiest/cheapest way to do this kind of shit without going all out and getting your own distillation equipment

I'd definitely cough up the $3 extra for the juice variety though  :yesnod:
