Im trying to do the 50/50 casing tek, but i cannot find hydrated lime anywhere (even pickling lime) and none of the petstores or nurserys have crushed oyster shells. i did manage to find this sand called calci-sand at my petstore, but it does not list ingredients, so should i assume it is pure calcium-carbonate? it says so on the bag but i just want to make sure its safe to use since it is dyed green. my other question is would it make too much a difference not to use the oyster shells? and also can anyone tell me the ratio of calcium carbonate to one cup of verm/peat mix? thanks for the help guys, im losing weight.

Not sure about that calci sand, but I couldnt find hydrated lime anywhere either until I checked a local mom and pop hardware store.
DoItBest.com has a list of hardware stores that they supply things to, and all of thier hardware retailers carry hydrated agriculture lime, as well as agriculture gypsum.
I am sure they supply a hardware store in your area.

I wasnt trying to be a jack-ass, you said you couldnt find dehydrated lime or oyster shells anywhere, so I gave you a source to where you could get them.

no you want to call someone a jackass for helping you find the proper materials, then you can use Bone-Aid and figure out why people use Lime and Oyster Shells.

I sincerely gave you my best advice. If you just use that bone-aid, I think you will have some pH problems. Do you have any litmus paper to test the pH of your casing layer?
