I'm quiting the herb
    #7843543 - 01/07/08 01:24 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I called my sister and told her to bring mom and meet me at my house after work today. My sis thinks I'm calling some intervention shit. Within 2 minutes my mom was calling asking what was going on. LOL

I'm just gonna give em all my pipes, my volcano, bongs, grinders and all that shit. Split up my bud between them also.

I've been getting too acquainted with my couch and have been late to work a lot lately. Just turned 25 and all my old smoking buddies have moved off, got married or are in jail.

Time to move on.

I've smoked since I was 12-13 and have quit several times for different reasons.  I'm just burnt out on it.  My tolerance is up so high that all I really get are the negatives now.  I just find it excluding me from things I would rather be doing.

Just ready for new goals that don't revolve around getting high.

Congrats on your success, Adom.

I've been wanting to cut down on weed for a while now. Ideally, I'd want to smoke once a month or every full moon - something separate from my daily activities. It hasn't happened though, and while I sometimes put it on my friends being wrapped up (maybe rolled up is a better term) in the marijuana too, ultimately I know that I am the one that inhales.

I'll start today. :tongue2:

I quit pot 12 months ago after smoking everyday for 5 - 6 years.

I think for most people you just have to realise that it was a fun time in your life and now it's time to move on... the large majority of people seem to get negative effects from smoking after smoking for a while.

Smoking when you were a kid/young was THE SHIT! Sooo much fun... it just sucks now

Quit cold turkey, even with tobacco addiction included (I smoke it 50/50) it only bad for 2 - 3 days... slightly irritable for another 2 - 3 and after a full week your head is clear and you're fine

Exactly.  I am thoroughly glad that I was a pothead from the ages of 16-19.  I had a great time and wouldn't trade my past recreational drug use for anything.  But, it started to suck and I noticed that all of my smoking buddies were fucking losers.  The lifestyle just blows too (at least where I'm from).  People always fiending for bags and wondering where the dank is.  People buying weed before they pay their bills.  People mooching money to get weed.  It's not as bad as the junkie lifestyle but I find it distasteful nonetheless.

I've been through my whole pothead stage, but I still dearly love weed.

I think it's more about moderation for some people. Yeah, smoking all the time really won't help your life out. And weed also loses its fun if  your stoned 24/7. But a few times a week seems to actually help my life and I still very high.

Goodluck though.

i stay stoned and am still highly productive (i consider myself extremely successful for my stage in life)... but i feel like i could be MORE productive if i just quit being high 24/7 (which i am).

i think it would be opportune for me to not smoke until night (~8pm/9pm) but i just find myself bored with nothing to do but smoke at like 2pm.

i need a hobby other than smoking, hahaha

Cowgold: congratulations! It's quite a step you're taking and you're finalizing it in the presence of family.

There'll probably be some insomnia in the first 1-2 weeks, and some restlessness for a few weeks more. Before March you'll be probably be able to say you don't really miss it anymore.

When it's time you got to move on.

My life became much more fun since I quit daily pot, and there's more of me there to enjoy it.

Welcome back Cowgold, good choice

Congrats my friend! Sometimes its surprising how little you can miss it.

Yes...too much herb can be a big hindrance rather than beneficial. As much as I enjoy it I must admit, every once in a while I do find myself being very unmotivated when stoned. Not physically but socially, I become very lethargic and boring in conversations, usually because I have nothing worth saying at the time and when I'm stoned small talk becomes very tedious for me.

Usually my capacity and enthusiasm for work both mental and physical remains at its usual high.

hey dude, that is fucking awesome. I've been a heavy smoker for the last 2 years now. I am quitting cold turkey as of today. Yesterday was my very last smoke. I want to push at least until march without smoking any herb.

I think this is going to feel GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

I have to admit, I get sad when people quit smoking. But I'm only 19, so I guess I would feel that way. At this stage in my life I feel confidant that I'm gonna be smoking until at least age 30. I think I can pull it off, too. I'm doing great in college (a lot better than in high school), and I feel like I can control my smoking.

The only thing I could think of that would make me quit is if all my friends stopped smoking.

Awesome... awesome. Its refreshing to read about someone TAKING ACTION rather than speculating/hoping/trying. What you did took guts. I wish you the best.

One tip that helped me... don't say "I'm trying to quit weed," or even "I'm quitting weed, I am not going to smoke anymore."

instead, think (and say, out-loud) "I don't smoke pot. That's something I used to do a lot back in the day, it stopped working for me, and now I don't smoke pot anymore. I don't smoke pot." That kind of language is key, it really works. Say it out loud! And be proud of your action, strength, and courage. Action brings good fortune.

I dont smoke pot..on weekdays. maybe.:smirk:

go out and just do stuff man. anything you can find, just keep yourself occupied and, most importantly, with good people. you got to change your surrounding to some level, and in time it will be a lot easier to keep you mind off drugs/or youll see how sober is better than being stoner.

Really?  Does every stoner who sits on the couch all day 'intend' to lead that lifestyle?  Or rather, do the effects of an addiction impose that lifestyle on them due to pharmacological changes in the brain?  I know kids that do very little other than smoke, watch TV, and play video games... maybe they think that is how they want to live their lives--that the working world is a rat race, in the end you're still a rat, the world is going to hell anyway, etc. etc. etc...

but the way I see it, every one of us is here for a reason.  How can we do anything but try and save our planet, or brothers and sisters?  We all have our capabilities, specific talents and our role in the cosmic play... inaction/laziness is a LUXURY that we rich westerners have, but if too many of us live that life style it will all collapse around us.  Plus, doing nothing but smoking all day can only lead to depression.  To be happy, you've got to do good in the world.  To experience joy, to be alive, one must apply their energies and talents, in whatever small ways, to the betterment of the lives of those around them.  :sun:

yes
by sucking the bong, i intend. to sit, all day.
i mean thats just me
im honest with myself. i know i smoke pot because life cn be boring and unfulfilling.
i intend to make it a bit more barable by smokin a spliff and reflecting on my life.

i know ALOT
of people who sit all day smoke and d nothing
they have made lifes and carriers out of it

i also know people who have taken money (inharidence) and blown it all (100k) on bud and heroin and video games and bongs, and comp parts over the course of 2 years.
we all have intentions. you just may not realise them at the time, probly cus you where high

if it's the cause of the problems, then i hope you get where you want to be

i'm on day three of a temporary break, myself.

trying to cut smoking out and am going to start baking with it instead. hoping to not get high for at least a week or two before i start getting high with cannafood. i've turned it down a few times already, which is better than most other times i've taken a break

Quote:

In a way the word "peace pipe" came first into use by white people, who initially had seen but one use of the pipe, but the ceremonial pipe had more uses than just settling a conflict between tribes.

The stem of the pipe represents the Male Principle as well as the Animal World, hence that sometimes there is a piece of fur wrapped around it.

The bowl of the pipe represents the Female Principle as well as the Plant Kingdom.

Consequently the whole of the pipe represents Creation, and as soon as bowl and stem are connected the ceremonial pipe becomes sacred as a result.

The tobacco being burned in it is believed to send one's prayers up to the Great Spirit, the creator of all that is. A string of eagle prayer feathers may also be attached to the pipe, as this bird, sacred to the Native Americans, soars highest of all birds and therefore dwells closest to the Great Spirit.

As White Buffalo Calf Woman had instructed the Lakota people, the stem of the pipe is to be held upward during ceremonies, thus forming a sacred bridge between our world and that of Wakan Tanka.

it sounds as thow everyone's problem is 2 many peace offerings, your all just to dam peaceful!  :awesome:

That's my problem, i live in a shithole country town with nothing to do. Got my ps3 and bud what else would i need? Whenever i blow this joint (no pun intended) I'll probably still smoke, but hopefully i wont have as much time to.

No shit. Fuck the cynicism. I hope the quitting is going well. Wish I had that kinda personal strength.

I'm not a super-regular smoker... probably once or twice in a week... but I still need to quit. I've gone so many times and said, "This is fucking stupid. Fuck this shit!" I then quit for a month and fall right back in.

Hope all's well.

Quittin is tough and my support goes out to you.

My longest streak is that Ive managed to smoke about a nic/dime a day, everyday, for about 2 months solid. When Newyears '08 occurred, I quit tokin.. just so I could say that I wasnt completely psych dependant. Every night I dream about smoking weed, and some days I get uber-depressed.

My goal is to piss clean, then ill probably start again.

But definitely. Good luck.

Good luck Cowgold. Ive quite here somewhat recently. Been a daily pot smoker for about 9 years too. I quit on December 15, 2007 since that was the day I graduated from college. Since then, in a short time, ive been able to buy a house, land a good job, and really enjoy day to day life much better. Sometimes I wish I was able to relax a little better, but without being stoned, there is just so much that I want to do around the house and out in the world since I'm new to big city living.

You can do it man, It is great too. I will probably smoke the first day of my first vacation, just to revisit the old days. I have about a half ounce saved up. Should last me the rest of my life...at least until i retire...

peace

Good luck.

I find for myself.. moderation is the best route.
I smoked everyday for a good 9 years.. I was basically dependent on it to start/go about my days. Tolerance was through the roof.. and it didn't bring me to the same place it used to. It was just a psychological addiction. I took a break for a few weeks and it let me appreciate the herb so much more. These days I just like to moderate myself.. smoking all the time every single day is just a waste. It is a very special plant, but the herb should not be abused. When used in moderation it helps me to appreciate it so much more. Anyway, even if you don't end up quitting completely.. I highly advice trying this route. If it's becoming too much, take a break for a few weeks/months. Come back when you feel more grounded and use sparingly. Herb is a magical plant, but like I said it shouldn't be abused.

And the people that say pot makes you lazy and unmotivated... nonsense. Laziness and unmotivation make you lazy and unmotivated, not pot.

Well it would be the same if meth and marijuana were similar.

The truth is though anyone blaming their downfall on marijuana is putting blame on the wrong thing. Anyone stating that their buddies are stereotypical stoner's, are overlooking the fact that marijuana does not cause one to be unmotivated. Perhaps some are just smoking and not focusing on real goals. There is no reason one should look anywhere else but at themselves.

I'd advise you to quit for a bit, then start to smoke every once in a while again, just to chill out. That's how people get stuck in a routine, boring life - they have a few wild young years, then when their buddies they did drugs/partied with are dead, in jail, married, moved on, etc.,  they move on, too... And turn into those corporate drones. A little plsychedelia is great for you.
Of course, I'm just making my assumptions based on your OP, so I don't know anything about you and may be totally wrong about the routine thing and so on.
IN any case, good luck with your life!

I didn't see where anybody in this thread is blaming their downfall on marijuana. The truth is habitual marijuana use has drawbacks. For some it might be chronic fatigue, for others it might make it too tempting to sit and watch TV, for some it might be only the cost of buying it.

How these drawbacks manifest themselves is different for everybody; what is wrong with deciding that you don't want to do it anymore? I just don't understand why people get so defensive when somebody says the daily smoking lifestyle isn't working for them anymore. Some people react to that like their best friend has just been insulted.

Congratulations to all of you who are able to smoke weed habitually without experiencing any downsides. That's not the case for most people. I have known a lot of habitual smokers, and never met anyone who wasn't giving up something in order to do it.

To use any drug is to decide you would rather be stoned in that particular moment than sober. To use a drug regularly is to decide that being stoned is consistently preferable to being not stoned. I find it hard to believe that so many people with this supreme level of self-control would reject their normal, sober state so frequently.

Say you've got two people with comparable levels of drive/motivation in their lives. Both used to smoke in college, and both quit upon graduating. Person A starts smoking pot again a year after graduation, smoking a lot on the weekends, and after work 2-3 days per week. Person B goes out to the bars on the weekends and drinks beer, and will sometimes enjoy a beer after work as well.

Ten years later, if the subjects' patterns continue, which do you think will have a higher salary? If you were offered $10,000 for a correct guess, which would you guess?

I'd put my money on the beer guy, because pot tends to cause amotivational syndrome. Its in the literature, and I've seen it with my own eyes, and it has happened to me.

I do not care if anyone stops smoking and I was not defensive in the least, I was voicing my opinion that marijuana causes one to have shortcomings. Like I stated before, there is no reason why one should blame the herb. Of course you're going to spend money, and fatigue comes to certain people. But to state that it causes one to have shortcomings is false. You might get tempted to sit around but this is your own fault and no one else's.

Also the only reason why people feel like their stoned state is better than their sober state, is because it has its benefits. Anyone who depends on it (not medicinally) is someone who should seek help. Once you feel like the stoned state of mind is the only good state of mind, then you surely have a problem. But the majority do it for several other reasons and not because they feel they must.

Moderation is key, as with anything :bongload:

moderation is key

amotivational symdrome is bs
i started smoking when i was 16, and my grades in school went way up, because i had a way to blow off steam and relax at the end of the week

weed taught me to stop fighting the system, and merely start bsing it

then again, i started and have continued to smoke in moderation, i have never been a daily smoker, and never will be

Good luck, you'll start to feel great in a month or so. Not that you probably didn't feel great getting baked all the time, but great in a different way..

I dont understand people who smokes weed everyday,. lazy bums all of you,. i love to smoke weed but not as much as i love working and making money. Any recreational drug must be taken in moderation period. i smoke whenever i need a break which is once in a while, ive done this for 14 years now and not once have i lost controll, same goes for any other drug ive taken. I wish you the best in quitting , wish you would give me the volcano instead but ey =)

Hey guys...I'm quitting herb too. Today. NOW. NOW NOW NOW

I've been meaning to quit for weeks, but "meaning to quit" doesn't make it happen. Enough of that bullshit. I have to be honest with myself: I don't enjoy it anymore.

This thread inspired me to take action, just hearing about how positive everyone's experiences has been with quitting pot. I'm done.

I'm putting this bong away.

Good luck guys! It's totally worth it, you'll feel very clearheaded soon enough. And you can still smoke the herb every once in a blue moon.

Uh...in a surprise turn of events, I got a vaporizer again...

So I quit smoking, but vaping might be another story altogether.

congrats, i haven't smoked in almost a month, i've been having some lapses here and there.

Longest recently was when I took up jogging and i stopped for a few months.

Moderation is definitely key. It is just more difficult if you toke one day then the next then eventually you fall back in.

GOOD LUCK!!!
