Standing water in rye jars
    #7842898 - 01/07/08 10:07 AM (16 years, 25 days ago)

I have a few qt rye jars that I g2g from a blue oyster jar. The master jar had no excess water and was fully colonized. The new jars colonized about 80% but there is like a 1/4" of water at the bottom of each jar causing things to slow down and not want to finish. I made these jars no different than any other rye jars (I use RR's rye tek). The rye was definitely not too wet and had the dry look to it. I have lion's mane jars as well that I g2g the same and they have no liquid at all at the bottom. I didn't do anything different with them. I flipped the watery jars upside down so the liquid collects at lid, but it wont drain very well out the micropore tape holes I made.

I suspect bacteria, and the 'water' you see is antibiotic metabolites. It was a mistake to get the micropore tape wet, if those are serving as your filter. Try to dry them out as fast as possible.

If the bottom won't finish, lay the jar on its side, and then rotate every day or two until full colonization. Don't use those jars for further g2g, but they should be able to spawn to bulk.
